Posted on Dec 14, 2011 in Announcements. It started, as so many things do, over a few beers. My original brewing equipment kit from Midwest Supplies. In that moment, I knew that I was hooked. While my hangover waned the next day, I started down an insatiable quest to learn everything I could about making, drinking (hey, glassware is important! I have big plans for what I hope this blog will grow into, and I hope. You’ll come along for the ride. Brewed: Dogfish Head 60-ish Minute IPA. All Pints North 2013.

In the interest of poking fun at myself, I thought it’d be entertaining to share a few of my lastest failures. Lager Mash From Hell. But was unsuccessful in getting the mash any higher than 145 . Brewed: Modern Times Hoppy Wheat. Brewed: Modern Times Hoppy Wheat. Posted on Apr 22, 2013 in Tasting. In early March, my wife coerced me into tackling the Whole30 Challenge. With her. For the uninitiated, the Whole30 Challenge is basically a 30 day, ultra-strict paleo diet, so no beer, bread, grains of any kind, or dairy and enough vegetables to scare a small child into thinking all the candy in the world was gone. It’s been really great reading updates on how Modern Times has gone from concept to...

Brew by Brew: Multigrain, 100% Brett Farmhouse Ale

http://brewbybrew.blogspot.com/2012/06/multigrain-100-brett-farmhouse-ale.html

Saturday, June 30, 2012. Multigrain, 100% Brett Farmhouse Ale. Actually, the impetus for this particular beer came several weeks ago. I had read some of Phile Markowski's Farmhouse Ales. And then found myself staring at all the raw "alternative" grains in the bulk food aisle of my local Whole Foods. Spelt. Buckwheat. Amaranth. Quinoa. I couldn't help myself, so I grabbed a few pounds of a variety of grains and headed home to research what to do with them. And then pitched the starter Monday night, giving...

Fluke Brewing - Minnesota Homebrewing, hop growing, DIY projects, beer reviews and recipes: Building a Summer Hefeweizen 2.0 Recipe

http://fluke-brewing.blogspot.com/2015/06/building-summer-hefeweizen-20-recipe.html

Thursday, June 18, 2015. Building a Summer Hefeweizen 2.0 Recipe. Making a great hefeweizen starts off with a quality source of water. I recommend using R.O. water (Reverse osmosis) and building a water profile by adding various salts and minerals. Building a water profile is fairly easy and it will further improve the quality of the beer you produce. 55 gallons R.O. water. 08 grams Epsom Salt (MgSO4). 20 grams Baking Soda (NaHCO3). 44 grams Chalk (CaCO3). 575% German Wheat Malt (2.0 SRM). Note: We mash ...

Brew by Brew: Fireside Porter

http://brewbybrew.blogspot.com/2011/02/fireside-porter.html

Saturday, February 19, 2011. After listening to the BN podcast with Shea Comfort on using oak, I decided to add some oak cubes to the primary, which Shea suggested can add mouthfeel, but little oak flavor to the finished beer. Not sure what kind of effect this will actually have - or if I will be able to detect it - but I figured it was worth a try. I'm thinking this will need some time to condition in the bottles, so I'm looking at mid-March before it will be ready. Batch Size: 3.50 gal. Norwegian Table...

Kids' school cancelled. Home for the day and snowbound. Hmmm.what to do.what to do? I have to admit that I wish I had brewed this beer a couple months ago - it would be nice to be drinking something like this during the current " arctic outbreak. Snow Day Porter (Fireside 2.0). http://brewbybrew.blogspot.com/2013/08/german-pils-tasting.html

Thursday, August 15, 2013. I'll start off by saying that this, my first official lager. Turned out great. As long as my cellar and garage temps continue to be low enough I think I will continue to brew one each winter. Now, on to the tasting. Clear, pale gold. Thick, foamy white head that persists. Looks like a Pils should. Overall mild aroma. Noble hops and characteristic Pilsner malt "Graham cracker". Crisp and dry, but not thin. Moderate carbonation. Creamy head. August 15, 2013 at 4:17 PM.
