We did not only hear with concern about the earthquake in Haiti and our own in Karonga, in the north of Malawi, but we even had a little one here in Lilongwe. For you, my friends, I hope you all are doing fine and that you are going to have a good start and a wonderful New Year 2010! Let's stay in touch. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Walking on the dunes. http://karolinesjam.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 2, 2009. Greetings and kisses from Lilongwe! Here some of the events that happened in the last time inside and outside my home. Far away from home. Field trip to the north - we went as far as the Tanzanian border, and we saw. Rural projects managed by the communities high up on mountains far away from any town,. Beautiful scenery with mountains, lake, beaches, rice fields. Goat herds driven by children crossing the streets,. Chicken crossing the street,. Lawn mowers transported on bikes,.

KAROLINE'S JAM: March 2009
http://karolinesjam.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, March 5, 2009. Having settled again after the excitement of the last weeks, I finally manage to sleep through - thanks to iron bars, motion detector systems, improved lights in the garden and the new young dog sleeping in a basket in my bedroom. Having been here for a while now, I see in how many ways Malawi struggles to manage even the most basic things. But I want to try to describe it with the sensitivity that is needed, so that it will be a fair and somewhat balanced image. Hi, I am Karolin...

KAROLINE'S JAM: Namibia
http://karolinesjam.blogspot.com/2010/08/namibia.html
Sunday, August 15, 2010. Taking a look at the previous texts, it seems like I am reducing my blog to a travel blog. Sorry for that! I guess I have to travel more often so you still get to read enough stuff from Africa. Anyways, here we go. Next morning - next culture shock. I went down to breakfast and found an open kitchen space. Asking how things work with breakfast, a (black) Namibian gave me a strict look and said:" You are late! Anyways, let me not bother you with more culture shock stories! I was n...

KAROLINE'S JAM: May 2010
http://karolinesjam.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Monday, May 17, 2010. Zimbabwe was great. We went to the Harare International Festival of the Arts and to Mutare /Eastern Highlands. Some of the interesting things there were:. Dudu Manhenga from Colour Blue impressed me most of all Zimbabwean musicians – such a charismatic lady. Salif Keita was also one of the great musicians to experience there. The trade fair in Bulawayo was jointly opened by Mugabe and Ahmadinejad. They used light bulbs". The Samifrom Northern Finland did not only joik at the festiva...
KAROLINE'S JAM: July 2009
http://karolinesjam.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Saturday, July 25, 2009. Masekela and my automechanic. Things to do in the next months are. Raise the 8 puppies that Laila has born and then find good homes for them. Take the Tazara train from Zambia to Dar es Salaam/Tanzania where you can see giraffes from the train, then go on to Zanzibar. Eat all the salat in my garden. Follow with the Malawian rythm of life even though I am now fully involved in the work. But when I came into the store, I saw the guy winding the inside band of the tape and I remembe...
KAROLINE'S JAM: NGOs, civic skills, and a blue sky
http://karolinesjam.blogspot.com/2009/12/ngos-civic-skills-and-blue-sky.html
Monday, December 7, 2009. NGOs, civic skills, and a blue sky. At work, trying to get finished with some tasks before Christmas and solving the question why, oh why the sky is so blue while we should have had much more rain already, I have now come to a point, where the heat has won over me and my head is on strike. I better hurry to the gym to get some relaxation! But just before that, a little update on what is going on. Sending you all my love. Just been scrooling up and down your blog and im loving it...
