Tel 44 1600 713913. Lady of the Lake. The lnwr 0-6-0 coal engine in 5" gauge. With drawings, castings and materials. Here engine No. 3209 has the later round smokebox door and brakes but these are still the early wooden type although it is coupled to the last version of the 1800 gallon tender from around the 1890’s. Here the tender has the standard spoked wheels. The black paintwork has been lined out but the whole locomotive looks in need of a good clean. Create a free website.

Like many young men, Chris Rayward was brought up on the Meccano construction sets and Hornby clockwork trains and the interest in engineering was fostered at home by a very perceptive Father. After earning some money in the mid-1950’s doing strawberry picking in the Cheddar Valley, a lathe was purchased and this provided the introduction to elementary machining and basic hand work with the various metals used to make model engines. All the necessary patterns for the miniature castings were made as required and helpful foundries produced the parts. Due to various advances in model building technology over the years and with parts produced for the later LNWR designs now available, there are some laser cut and water jet cut steel parts that are applicable to the Coal Tank and these are shown on the Price List. The small size of the cylinders and the Stephenson valve gear layout means the engine is more like a 3½” gauge model and no parts are very heavy or complex to make.
