Houston Garden Girl: January 2013

http://www.houstongardengirl.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, January 24, 2013. Fruit Tree Sale Season. It's that time of year again, the time to buy fruit trees. I have noticed a spike in hits on my blog the past few weeks, despite not blogging for the last 6 months or so, no doubt because of my 2011 series on growing fruit trees in Houston. I wrote three articles on growing fruit trees. And one that will give you an idea of what the Urban Harvest Fruit Tree. Sale is like. You can also check out some fruit tree descriptions on the Urban Harvest. I've bee...

Houston Garden Girl: April 2013

Tuesday, April 16, 2013. April Garden Bloggers Bloom Day. I’m back, I’m back in the saddle again. Sorry, but that’s the song stuck in my head right now. Here’s my first Bloom Day post in a long time. I still don’t have my plants in the ground at my new house, but that isn’t stopping them from blooming. All but one of these is still in a pot that I brought from the old garden. This honeysuckle is one of the few plants that gets to stay. Too bad you don't have smell-a-vision. Seems to bloom year-round.

Houston Garden Girl: Possibly the Very Best Citrus

http://www.houstongardengirl.com/2015/01/possibly-very-best-citrus.html

Thursday, January 8, 2015. Possibly the Very Best Citrus. Not only am I a gardener, but my dad is a gardener, and my granddad is a gardener. This past summer my dad and I helped out in my grandad’s garden. Here we are, three generations of gardeners. My grandparents live in Kansas, needless to say…they cannot grow citrus. They do have a lot of Texas crepe myrtles growing there, but semi-tropical they are not. But, I digress. What I really wanted to tell you about are Kishu Mandarins. Kids love them and w...

Houston Garden Girl: July 2013

http://www.houstongardengirl.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, July 28, 2013. Growing Tillandsias in Palms. Recently I travelled to San Francisco for the annual Garden Bloggers Fling. We visited about 15 different public and private gardens. There were many opportunities for inspiration. At the Nichols garden in Oakland, I was taken by their use of tillandsias and bromeliads in the Canary Date palm in their front yard. Here’s my test case, with two tillandsias that I bought at Ikea of all places (obviously an impulse buy. Labels: San Francisco Fling. There&#...

Houston Garden Girl: December 2011

http://www.houstongardengirl.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

Friday, December 2, 2011. Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center. This was my first trip to the Wildflower Center. The entire center covers almost 300 acres, but the display gardens are all pretty close to the main entrance. There are also trails representing different ecosystems, but I didn’t have a chance to explore those. Here are some shots of the gardens from the top of the tower. Here are some of my inspiration photos. This is our native red turk’s cap, blooming in the shade of an oak tree. And for oth...

Lucy's in the Garden: Our Cardinal Family

http://www.lucysinthegarden.com/2012/05/our-cardinal-family.html

Lucy's in the Garden. Friday, May 25, 2012. Recently, we had a pair of Northern Cardinals build a nest in our garden. The hatchlings have fledged, but the family is still spotted daily in the garden. Here is a series of photos I took of them at the feeder. I have a hanging bird feeder in the. In it I usually place red grapes and whole peanuts. The Cardinal family loves the grapes. The babies get very excited when they see their Papa on the feeder. They always want more! May 25, 2012 at 5:40 PM. Happy to ...

Ramblings of a Mother: Garden Goals & Goals for the Week

http://curiousforlife.blogspot.com/2015/04/garden-goals-goals-for-week.html

Ramblings of a Mother. Wednesday, April 22, 2015. Garden Goals and Goals for the Week. I like the idea of documenting my goals for the week like the prudent homemaker does on her blog. I think it keeps me more accountable and helps me organize my time and be able to look back and remember what I did at certain times of the year or what was accomplished. (Wow! That was quite the run-on sentence! So here are my goals for this week:. Weed around plum tree. Weed butterfly garden and far sunny garden. Record ...

Ramblings of a Mother: October 2014

http://curiousforlife.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Ramblings of a Mother. Friday, October 3, 2014. This month I will be making lots of meals that freeze well so that I can make two and freeze one for next month after the baby comes. I don't normally plan lunches because we usually have sandwiches or leftovers. Also, I will most likely just have vegetables on the side that are on sale that week or that are ripening in the garden. I also plan on making homemade applesauce this month! Double or triples batch to freeze extras). Dinner: Pizza, green salad.
