What To Do With Hundreds Of Dead Trees | Houston Naturally
https://houstonnaturally.wordpress.com/2013/03/13/what-to-do-with-hundreds-of-dead-trees
An Ode to Life in Houston. What To Do With Hundreds Of Dead Trees. This entry was posted on March 13, 2013 and tagged chinese tallow tree. Once you fell a tree, what do you do with it? In our case, what do we do with hundreds of trees? We are our own foresters; we do all the trimming, pruning and lately, all the felling of doomed Chinese tallow trees. One of the log-lined paths. It has been mulched and skirts past a brushpile. Beats having a lawn! Joan E. Strassmann. March 13, 2013 at 6:18 pm. Fill in yo...

An Ode to Life in Houston. Art as a Gift. This entry was posted on January 6, 2016 and tagged Art. For the past eleven years, I (Rick) have made a piece of art for my daughter, Megan, for her birthday. I like to give her something that reflects some aspect of her life in the past year. While having dinner with Megan a few nights ago, we were trying to remember what I had made and when. We eventually came up with six birthday pictures of her holding her new art. The piece from 2014 is a watercolor and pen...
Weathering the Summer | Houston Naturally

An Ode to Life in Houston. This entry was posted on September 17, 2012 and tagged air conditioning. One of our first posts at the beginning of the summer was about not using air conditioning. We decided that we would not use any, if possible, over the course of the Houston 2012 summer. Now, with the first cool front pushing through, perhaps marking the end of summer, we can look back. So how did we fare? We were hot sometimes? One thought on “ Weathering the Summer. Joan E. Strassmann. Art as a Gift.
Waterer For Four Hens | Houston Naturally

An Ode to Life in Houston. Waterer For Four Hens. This entry was posted on October 28, 2012 and tagged chickens. So one day I was picking up layer pellets at Southwest Fertilizer. The four hens drink almost a large bottle per day, and when it was hot over the summer, sometimes more. So I have two large ones on the coop and a small one on their portable day pen. An Ode to Life in Houston. Goodbye, Chinese Tallow Trees. This entry was posted on February 21, 2013 and tagged chinese tallow tree. Big old tree, falling apart. The last few months have been eventful in our little forest. The most conspicuous trees here have been the Chinese tallow tree, Triadica sebifera. According to Wikipedia. They account for 23 percent of the trees in the Houston area, more than any other tree species! 4 thoughts on “ Goodbye, Chinese Tallow Trees. February 21, 2013 at 3:21 pm.

Social Science and the Academy. Advice to Graduate Students from a Faculty Member. In one of my last posts I put together advice to junior faculty. For aspiring undergraduate students considering graduate school, you might want to read the advice offered by Justin Esarey on The Political Methodologist. Likewise, the ever present Chris Blattman. Alternative sources of general advice include Stephen C. Stearns. And Ronald T. Azuma. What is the main contribution and how does it fit with the literature?
