Friday, May 22, 2009. Greta's Visit, Day 2. The weather cleared in the afternoon so we decided to hike the Yellow Mountain trail. We climbed about 900 feet in a couple of miles, then turned around. We saw many wildflowers. When we completed the hike it was late in the day and we decided to eat supper at The Pizza Place in Highlands. In the evening we showed Greta our Alaska photos. Sunday, May 10, 2009. We have been in Highlands for a week. It has been rainy. Animal report: We have a resident bunny. He is good sized and not at all frightened of us. One day we saw him eating last fall's dried leaves. What nutrition could he get from that? We saw a wild turkey on the road. The Vanderhills report evidence of a bear. Wednesday, June 18, 2008. Duluth Trip: Day 6. Monday, June 16. We had an excellent trip, thanks largely to Miriam’s extraordinary hospitality. Duluth Trip: Day 5. Sunday, June 15. After breakfast Miriam and I finished sorting through some of our mother’s papers. In the afternoon Carmen and I took a walk to see a restored house that she had read about in the newspaper. An unexpected bonus was the giant gnome on the front lawn that had been carved from the trunk of a dead tree. Beth and her strawberry pie.
