Beat in the egg, then stir in the vanilla. Combine the flour and salt; stir into the sugar mixture. Cover dough, and chill for at least one hour. Chill cookie sheets. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Press dough out onto ungreased, chilled cookie sheets. Labels: foods, deserts, sweets, cookies butter cookies.

In a large bowl, measure the shortening and put it in the bowl. Then measure the peanut butter and put it in the shortening. Whip them together with a mixing spoon until they are blended together. Add the granulated sugar on the peanut butter mixture. Pack the bronw sugar into measuring cup and then dump it on the granulated sugar.
