Just another WordPress.com weblog. The babies are here! Posted by Gratitude Farm in chickens. We received 39 new baby chicks this morning. Since Belle is no longer broody, I am not sure if we should try putting her in with them to mother them. It is a lot nicer that way. Maybe I will try. All chickens shipped arrived in good health. New chicks, Sept. 10, 2010. 5 each at this size. Wait, the count doesn’t add up correctly! Found a stash of eggs! Posted by Gratitude Farm in chickens. Today’s work see...

Just another WordPress.com weblog. Laquo; first mortality. Chicken soup in the Seattle Fall. Posted September 11, 2010 by Gratitude Farm in garden. The house is surrounded by hard-packed lawn, with plenty of moss and holes throughout. In the front, we had the chicken coop for about 6 months, and then it sat for about 6 months. I then planted, with no tilling and the minimum amount of digging I could get away with. Red cabbage, broccoli, lettuce, and onions planted in the front yard. Lettuce, just planted.

Just another WordPress.com weblog. Laquo; Chicks in the tractor. Posted November 12, 2010 by emgibbons in chickens. The baby chicks have been in the big coop with the full grown hens for about 2 weeks now. I moved the light in there at that time. The babies still sleep on the ground, after being in the tractor (which has no roosts), except for two leghorns. Egg production had dropped, and I am hoping it increases a bit. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Chicks in the tractor. Posted October 14, 2010 by Gratitude Farm in baby chicks. I moved the babies into the tractor a couple days ago. They suddenly begin showing so much more personality out there, with the room to jump and fly around. They have been bumping chests. Today when I opened the lid to feed them, I did a few other things in the area. When I looked up, a chick was out. Then I saw one inside the main coop, and then another on the fence 10 feet away!

Just another WordPress.com weblog. Laquo; Bandit, the chicken rustlin’ cat. Found a stash of eggs! Last of the meat birds, for now. Posted August 23, 2010 by Gratitude Farm in chickens. Today’s work seemed grosser and harder. We did not have a pot of water. We just skinned them, and moved them immediately to the cutting board. We did not sort the livers and hearts; we tossed it all. Thank goodness the tractor is empty now. It seems hard to believe. See the red maple in there? Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Just another WordPress.com weblog. Laquo; cold wet fall. Posted May 25, 2014 by Gratitude Farm in chickens. Well, it’s really cool that I blogged a bit when I did. The chicken cops came around and want proof that we had roosters before the ban. I had a place to store links but I’ll have to add this to it another time. I wanted to save this, on shade tolerant plants. Http:/ www.motherearthnews.com/organic-gardening/shade-tolerant-vegetables-zm0z11zsto.aspx#axzz32Gnia3X2. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.
