Roy + Ell: July 2011

Ago today I was in a wedding dress with that enormous smile practically splitting my face. I couldn't help it! It was seriously the best day of my whole life! Pretty sure both of us had those smiles on for a couple weeks, non-stop. My face is still. Everything is still so fresh, and yet it's been a year? I can't believe it. Maybe I should change the name of this blog. The Oldyweds. Hmm, I'll keep brainstorming. Being married means always having someone on your team, every second of every day. Although we...

Alright, I've accepted it. It was difficult, and a little heart breaking, but I've come to terms with it. Roy is not as obsessed with Halloween as I am. It's just not his favorite holiday. It's more like his eighth favorite holiday, right there after Labor Day. For example, last year I begged. This is us trying to figure out what we're going to do with our pumpkins. We all planned to enter them into a pumpkin carving contest that weekend, so we had to think creative. Here's how they turned out. Simon's: ...

So you may have thought this blog was reaching the end of its life. For the last few months you’ve watched it sputtering, winding down, slowing to a pathetic crawl. Maybe you {my few beloved readers} have even given up reading. The truth is, our family record hasn’t been dying. It’s been gearing up. Gathering its strength. Wanna know why? Because our family blog is about to explode with high adventure and hilarious disaster. In fact, the makeover goes deep enough to change our blog address! 160;When we d...

Today my boss had his eleventh birthday. He's pretty mature for eleven. What did I do on my leap day? Worked, taught art class, and won a soccer game. Lots of leaping going on around here. Like leaping to drive my co-worker to the maternity ward, mere days away from delivering twins. This is Eryn at 14 weeks. Cute pregnant lady! Leaping to try and save my student's curly locks from soaking up all the red paint. As crazy busy as I am, I need. Another day to catch up on things. Like this blog! Roy and I us...

Roy + Ell: Office Life
http://royandellzadventures.blogspot.com/2012/03/office-life.html
The window blinds in my office are broken. It's like a cage with no breathing holes! So the door stays open a lot these days. I don't dislike the office. But sometimes I wonder whether I'd actually prefer physical labor. Okay, you're probably already laughing, imagining me wielding a jack-hammer. You're right, maybe not that intense. But in high school I was a nanny for two and a half years. Trust me, that. Get peed on. These days one can't ask for more in a job! I indulge in my UK obsession. E r = love}.

Roy + Ell: Why Write
http://royandellzadventures.blogspot.com/p/why-write.html
Why eat fifteen scoops of ice cream? Because it makes a good story! I write because I love stories, and I want to keep track of mine. I want to have something I can look back on and say, "That was hilarious! Or "What was I thinking? This blog isn't exactly intended for creative purposes. I have another blog where I'm working on honing my ability to write—a favorite hobby. But the purpose of this blog is documentation. What were we thinking? And hopefully, "We've had some good times together.". Honeymoon ...

Hair has been the source of a lot of entertainment lately. Roy wants to grow his long for the Philmont hike he'll be doing later this summer. But his hair is ridiculously stubborn. When it grows, it just grows out. Like in the picture above. I kid you not, that's how his hair wants to grow naturally. If he grew it long it would just be an untameable afro. So Shellena and I busted out the hairspray and gel and went to work trying to find a style I like. Roy liking it was a plus, but not mandatory. Don't m...

The Photographer in Me. Simon and our friend Greg have been helping me figure out how to use this amazing camera of ours. Roy and I have spent almost two months looking for a place to live. We're going to be there for a minimum of three years, and it could be a lot longer. So, naturally, we want to take our time. Really find something perfect. Cheap and perfect. But for now we are homeless. The only thing keeping us off the dark, cruel streets of Tucson is the generosity of family. :-). The bathroom is f...

Roy and I have it pretty good. Really, really. Good But sometimes I forget that, even over the stupidest things. Yesterday morning Roy and I were trying to run out the door to school and work. My boss has asked the admins to arrive at the office five minutes early every day, and you wouldn't believe how that has thrown us for a loop. I barreled down the stairs out of breath, still putting my hair up, and sweet Roy knew I wouldn't have time to make myself some breakfast. You better hurry.". Sometimes Roy ...

Another Christmas Come and Gone. Santa needed a little helper on Christmas Eve, and I volunteered. Yes, Santa still visits the Collett home, even though there aren’t any “children” left in it. Instead, it was full to bursting with teenagers/young adults. With Zac, Simon, Alexa, Mason, Roy, me, and Dad to set up Christmas for, Mom was planning on staying up all night. So while everyone slept she and I wrapped, taped, tied, and {in one case} cut up and arranged a garbage bag to resemble wrapping paper.
