Hannah Phelps: Well Armed, Part Deux
http://hannahphelpsgallery.blogspot.com/2013/05/painting-daily-vs-daily-painting-or.html
Wednesday, May 29, 2013. Well Armed, Part Deux. 169; 2013 Hannah Phelps. Oil on canvas, 4" x 6". Translates to a $24 reserve bid.). Last week, I told a little sob story about how my arm was in bad shape for a few months. I ended by telling you that I started painting daily. Sometimes I finish a piece in one session, but usually I work on it again sometime within the week. If I am having trouble with something, that is ok - I put it away and paint something else. And offered them for auction. For the next...

Hannah Phelps: Expanding Reductions
http://hannahphelpsgallery.blogspot.com/2012/04/expanding-reductions.html
Monday, April 9, 2012. 169; Hannah Phelps. One version of "Wisconsin Lake". Reduction relief print on paper, 4" x 6". I realize that I have been throwing some printmaking terms around lately. I thought we should talk a little more about what a reduction relief is. In its simplest form, reductions use one block to make a multi-colored print. The block is printed and carved over and over until the picture is complete. In step-by-step format, creating a reduction goes a little like this:. When I did my firs...

Hannah Phelps: Artists Buying Art
http://hannahphelpsgallery.blogspot.com/2013/08/artists-buying-art.html
Wednesday, August 7, 2013. Benson I, painted from life by Karen McLain. Karen McLain, posted with permission of the artist. I went to the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen's Fair. I go with my husband every year and we usually buy things. One year, we didn't buy anything - not one thing! And I felt very sad on the drive home. I don't let that happen anymore. This year, we more than made up for that sad year. It is a painting by an artist named Karen McLain. Here is some footage of the horse in my painting.

Hannah Phelps: White-Line Woodcut Prints
http://hannahphelpsgallery.blogspot.com/2009/11/white-line-woodcut-prints.html
Sunday, November 1, 2009. Path of the Water. White-line woodcut print; watercolor on paper. So What is a White-line Woodcut Print Anyway? Like any piece of art, a white-line woodcut print begins with an idea. In my case, I use the natural world as inspiration for a drawing on paper. This drawing is then transferred onto a piece of wood. With my lines visible on the surface, I carve an outline of the drawing with a knife. The carved lines will become the "white lines" in the final print. Mei-Ling Uliasz o...

Hannah Phelps: White-line and Jigsaw in a New Way
http://hannahphelpsgallery.blogspot.com/2013/04/white-line-and-jigsaw-in-new-way.html
Monday, April 1, 2013. White-line and Jigsaw in a New Way. 169; Hannah Phelps. Wave on a Bright Day. Jigsaw relief, 9" x 12". This print is a jigsaw AND a white-line. I completed it a few weeks ago from drawings in my sketchbook. I don't know how many pieces I ended up with after I cut up the block - you can try to count them if you want to. But there isn't a prize for the right answer or anything. This time. This block seems like a messy, logistical nightmare to print - there are a lot of pieces and som...
