Sunday, March 31, 2013. Cooperatives, Supply Chain, Community Needs. 8220;Thank you for visiting my country, thank you for buying our coffee.”. After Mexico, I found myself waiting at the Guatemalan border without my contact to pick me up as planned. Come to find out, I wouldn’t be meeting him at all as he had passed on his leadership role to another man in the cooperative. Supply chain - All I’m asking is that you open up a space in your consciousness to the experience of the small producer. Travel temp...

Monday, April 29, 2013. First Annual Leaf Rust Summit, Guatemala. I thought I'd share the write up that I sent to Counter Culture staff last week about my experience at the Summit. But, before I get to that, I'll add just a little bit more of a personal narrative, because, what is a blog for? Given that the message seems to be that the true crisis will be in 2014, and. Also - NPR did a great job during coffee week touching on the subject. And, as always, Michael Sheridan's synthesis. 8221; There was a cl...

Monday, February 11, 2013. February 11, 2013. Traveling for work to remote coffeelands amongst different producer cultures can sometimes be solitary. Over the last four trips to origin countries, I felt the desire to share the experiences in a more nuanced way. My hope is to continue to best be able to bring the voices of producers and their communities to the greater coffee community and the community of those that support me in the work that I believe in every day. To check out our cheese?

Duly Noted: Marathon Training: A couple long runs

http://dulynotedjournal.blogspot.com/2014/06/marathon-training-couple-long-runs.html

Collected thoughts about style, running, teaching, mothering, and the good life. Saturday, June 28, 2014. Marathon Training: A couple long runs. I signed up for Twin Cities Marathon! This will be my 5th marathon and my 3rd Twin Cities. I needed a challenge- a physical and mental one- to focus my training and give new perspective to paying attention to my health and well-being. Today's 13 felt so easy in comparison (an easy 10:28 pace- my running buddy, Rose, was tough on me and forced me to GO EASY!

Duly Noted: oh, hello.

http://dulynotedjournal.blogspot.com/2014/11/oh-hello.html

Collected thoughts about style, running, teaching, mothering, and the good life. Sunday, November 16, 2014. It's been a while. I know. I started to outdo myself with the monthly mommy posts. Misha is an objectively small wonder, but the world is full of wonder and it is okay if he isn't always in the spotlight. Especially on the interwebs. Besides Langston Hughes, we've been reading this. By bell hooks, this. By George Orwell, and watching some of this. At home, I have been reading this. YWCA Sprint Tria...

Collected thoughts about style, running, teaching, mothering, and the good life. Monday, November 25, 2013. Seven months and counting. You may have noticed that my time spent blogging is negatively correlated to Misha's growth. I believe I didn't even publish a six month update! Probably not, especially if you're a parent. It's too bad that Misha can't spell yet or he could blog for me. He thinks computers are pretty fascinating. Here's a quick update:. Sitting up.all by himself. Interest in other kids!

Collected thoughts about style, running, teaching, mothering, and the good life. Wednesday, February 19, 2014. I skipped month nine and now, we are celebrating month ten! As Misha is attempting to type, I am going to keep this post short and give my readers what they truly want- photos and random anecdotes. Drink: water from tippy cup (Momma's Milk is really still the hit fave). Toy: Piano, anything Melissa and Doug(! Mischief: eating dog hair (gross). Drinking from a straw. Weekly Training Recap: 2/3-2/9.

Collected thoughts about style, running, teaching, mothering, and the good life. Wednesday, December 11, 2013. At a favorite Twin Cities Yarn store, photo credits go to my dear friend, Hannah! These days, you smile wide when daddy or mommy comes home. You pet Rachel The Dog and you look for her when you hear her bark or her collar jingle. You'll humor me by looking in the mirror, but you really want to watch the record spinning in the console and touch the curtain in your room. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Duly Noted: On Acquaintance Rape and Hemingway.

http://dulynotedjournal.blogspot.com/2015/02/on-acquaintance-rape-and-hemingway.html

Collected thoughts about style, running, teaching, mothering, and the good life. Tuesday, February 3, 2015. On Acquaintance Rape and Hemingway. When I chose to teach a handful of Hemingway short stories in my twelfth grade English class, I did not expect to moderate a heated discussion about acquaintance rape. Yet, to veer away from the conversation directly counteracts my belief in literature’s ability to tackle the most human and difficult of topics. When is it okay to pursue a sexual encounter? Yet, I...
