Blogwurst: A Very Special Christmas

Saturday, December 29, 2012. A Very Special Christmas. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday, and you're all looking forward to the new year. We had a really nice Christmas, although as I mentioned before it was very different. I decided to jump into Christmas decorating, so we bought a tree and some other things to fill our little apartment. Plastic, but it looks pretty good. Subtle, but sweet. I even found some stinkin' cute stockings! Different world than the hot summer outside, but whatever. We cam...

Thursday, September 8, 2011. Poland: The Greatest Country in the World. Life in Kassel has been alternately exciting and boring (as usual) and I will share some of the excitement but clearly the most important event in the past month was our trip to Poland. The purpose of the trip was to attend Ania and Dominik's wedding, but we weren't going to go all the way to Poland and not see some of the exciting cities. Welcome to the border! We made it to Pozna. Extra Impressive at night. Natalia's famous in Pozna.

Tuesday, April 5, 2011. Hello loyal readers- greetings from sort-of cloudy Kassel! Anyway, as I said, being home with my friends was just what I needed after being away for a year. It's nice to schedule a weekend to visit others or to have visitors come from out of town, but I love being able to call a friend and say "want to meet up in an hour? That hasn't been a part of my daily life for so long, it was strange to not have to schedule a skype date to talk with a good friend. Played in the closet. By Jo...

Friday, March 25, 2011. Blogwurst Leftovers, Part II : Marty's Revenge. I am always talking about myself, and I never ask how you. Are doing. I hope you're doing well, and feeling good about spring. Daylight savings has happened in the US, but not yet in Germany. We'll change our clocks this coming Sunday, and then the fun will really begin. But here is a photo provided by the internet:. Aerial view of the Schloss and surrounding gardens. The second reason that the trip was enjoyable was because the inte...

Monday, August 8, 2011. Bachelorettes, Hercules, and other studs. It's been an incredibly packed couple of weeks, and there's much to share. So much, in fact, that I may have to split this into two posts. Overwhelming! A few days later, my good friend Aimee Cooper arrived for a visit. She had been traveling in the Czech Republic and Austria with her husband and a few younger musical students. They were on a study abroad trip to visit historic musical sights ( I guess? And here, take my card! A few days a...

Monday, May 14, 2012. A New Chapter. Or Maybe a New Book. In the same slow, thinking manner, and I thought, "Oh, that doesn't sound stupid. It sounds like someone who is learning a language." Ta-da! Apart from the obvious language learning, being in school has other benefits as well. I now have a schedule and a reason to get up on time in the morning, which gives me motivation for the rest of the day. ( This is probably why I have been motivated to write this blog post! A closeup of our hood.

Friday, July 15, 2011. A whirlwind trip through the past three months. Sorry for my long delay in writing. I was in the US for a month, followed by a week in Reykjavik, and then a busy few weeks getting back into the swing of things in Kassel. Not great excuses, I know. We've hit the mid-point of summer now, and in traditional German fashion, the weather is. total crap! Remember a while back when I made fun of your snowpocalypse, and I gloated that the weather was finally nice? Still, it was great to be ...

Tuesday, September 11, 2012. Dokumenta - Ein Kustausstellung in Kassel. I have been in Kassel for approximately a week and a half and as previously mentioned, it was so easy and comfortable to slip back into the life I had here. I ride a bike all over the city, I eat in the University cafeteria, and I sometimes sleep on the Svenson's couch- just like old times. But things are different here too, and I'm still surprised every day. Not just during the exhibition. The first and last trees planted. Things wi...

Monday, September 20, 2010. Italy, a canal, and some cueca. Well friends, I'm getting close to the end of my first year in. And this summer couldn't have been wrapped up any better. It feels as though several months of happenings were crammed into one, so I hope I can recall it in a coherent way. This will probably be a long post, so tuck in. For starters, my sister, Chrystena, came to visit me in August and it was a blast. We spent a few days in. Only once, for two days in. So I was eager to see more.
