Thoughts on public history. Interpreting the Presidential Past. Visiting museums – a social experience →. Historic Preservation – for me, a blessing and a curse. April 9, 2011. This is a blessing because I have a new appreciation for our country’s beautiful architecture, a curse because I can’t look at beautiful modern houses like a normal person – I’m an historic house snob. Original house on the right, built circa 1809. Original house, plus additions, plus restaurant. Interpreting the Presidential Past.

Thoughts on public history. Newer posts →. My days with Monique. March 31, 2011. Monique - a survivor. I’m spending some time with a wonderful woman who has an amazing story to tell – and I get to help her tell it. She has asked me why anyone would care about her story, and she is flabbergasted that her papers and photographs are important enough to preserve and make available to the public. Without even sharing her story (It’s too early! I can answer that question easily. March 30, 2011. William F. ...

Thoughts on public history. Visiting museums – a social experience. September 11, 2001 – Where were you? April 25, 2011. I love the History Channel. I know I probably shouldn’t – there are a lot of sensationalized stories, sketchy research, and reality shows – but I can’t help it. This program includes personal stories taken from letters and interviews, official Nazi footage, and home movies taken by people affected by Hitler (which doesn’t narrow the pool down much, does it? 8221; Yikes.). 8211; great s...

Thoughts on public history. Historic Preservation – for me, a blessing and a curse. History on TV →. Visiting museums – a social experience. April 18, 2011. This feeling was definitely evident this weekend as I toured several museums in the awesome company of some of my fellow public history students. As we walked through. Once we drove throug. Being part of a group also kept me moving when I was tired. We spent over 6 hours each day looking at exhibits and analyzi. In the Name of Love. This entry was po...

Thoughts on public history. Embracing my inner history nerd →. September 11, 2001 – Where were you? May 2, 2011. I was teaching at an alternative school in Newport News, VA. I taught middle school kids who had been kicked out of public school, many of whom were on probation or house arrest – it was my first full-time teaching job. My husband had just left on September 7th for his first ever deployment to the Middle East. Nick was 2 years old and in daycare on base. This entry was posted in Uncategorized.

Huber HIGHlights
Tuesday, August 4, 2015. Our first stop was Edinburgh. Craigmillar castle is right on the edge of the city. This castle is the perfect castle for hide and go seek. So many nooks and crannies. No rhyme or reason to the layout. It was seriously like a maze because of all of the additions and changes that were made throughout the years. View of the city from the castle. Then we went into the city. We headed straight for the Royal Mile and walked to Edinburgh Castle. Close up of the castle from the hill.
