Saturday, 25 April 2009. Nothing nasty though, but as I was messing around under the Royal Somerset. Sharp apple tree t'other day, there was an unholy racket coming from over my head. Looking up, I saw a small bird with a beak full of wriggling grubs watching me closely - and complaining bitterly about my presence. Coal Tit. Having three entrances and compartments adjacent to one another, but it has been empty and unused for some 3 or 4 years now. No longer! Real Cider comes to Hucknall. Dog on the loose.

So what's happened since? The East Midlands Ciders on sale at the Hucknall Beer Festival. My first call was to Mark and Karen at Rockingham Forest Cider to see if they had anything I could beg? The late cold spring means plums and pears lost out again, we will have a few, and the apples are all about 3 weeks late and small due to the severe drought in July. Our light sandy soil does not retain moisture well and we cannot afford to irrigate. Hope to see some of you there. Kind regards to all. Catching up - Again!
