The planning for the May 2016 bond election has been a multi-year process and involved many levels of information gathering, research and community input. Huffman ISD’s last bond election was in 2007. Since then, the district has grown by over 400 students and continues to grow. Public school taxes involve two components: Maintenance and Operations (M&O), used to pay for salaries, utilities, furniture, supplies, food, gas, etc. and Interest and Sinking (I&S), used to repay debt. Bond elections affect the I&S tax rate. If the bond election passes, the estimated maximum tax impact of this bond is anticipated to be 12 cents to the I&S portion, resulting in a total tax rate of $1.52. This represents an increase of approximately $10 a month for $100,000 of taxable home value.
