Belemnite Fossil, fairly common in some areas. Frost-shattered rock. Fossil Bluff includes many glacial and periglacial featured that you're encouraged to imagine on geography field trips happening 10-20,000 years earlier in the Lake District. A light dusting of snow near the cottage. The view from the veranda.

The plane crashed on take-off last year and was repaired in situ before being flown out. ALCI Basler C-GEAI after repairs. BAS Twin Otter leaving northbound (no skis). The view from the lab window. A selection of airborne penguins, penguins on ice and penguin tracks on. The ice floes we were passing (or breaking). Taken around the South. Orkneys as we dropped people off at Signy and Powell Island. Friday, 27 December 2013. Gentoo penguins, Bertha's Beach. Quick stomp along the beach from Mare Harbour during bunkering.

After 50 years and one extension of life (and hull) refit, RRS Discovery is on her last research cruise. A blog for the cruise is http:/ discoslastdance.blogspot.co.uk/. It is being replaced by another RRS Discovery. Extending the lineage to four ships, going back to Captain Scott's ship. Discovery at the Crozet Islands (following year).

He wrote many books and short stories about POWs on the Burma-Thailand Railway and in Japan, as well as books on other subjects including growing up in the Great Depression and life in the Northern Territory.
