Humble Hammock: April 2015

http://humblehammock.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Saturday, April 25, 2015. Budget Wedding: Part 3. Did you read Budget Wedding: Part 1. And Budget Wedding: Part 2. If not, start there! Our reception venue was an outdoor covered pavilion. I used simple, inexpensive decor to make it feel full, vintage and colorful. The $6 spider plants were one of my favorite touches. I wanted ferns, but they were already out of season and these 30 second decision replacements ended up to be spot on. I found these free printables on Pinterest. When we chose our reception...

Humble Hammock: Desk Chair Refresh

http://humblehammock.blogspot.com/2016/05/desk-chair-refresh.html

Wednesday, May 4, 2016. This post is extremely simple and is only being posted for those with before/after infatuations. I've had this chair since I was a little girl. It was once white, then brown, and most recently cream with a monogram (see below). You probably know by now that I can't leave any craft unattempted, so I decided to upgrade my sturdy old chair with a fresh coat of paint. I like to categorize the covering of the monogram and cheesy craft paint as "adulting.". And now. before and after!

Humble Hammock: DIY: Plant Stand Makeover

http://humblehammock.blogspot.com/2016/07/diy-plant-stand-makeover.html

Tuesday, July 26, 2016. DIY: Plant Stand Makeover. This spring I took my mom antiquing, or "teeking" as my grandmother calls it. It's something that we both enjoy and it's a good excuse to spend some quality time together. While out and about in some unchartered teeking territory, we came upon not only a humble little shop, but a honey hole of inexpensive and unique items. Within ten minutes I took this stand from 1970 to 2016 and I couldn't be happier with the end result! Labels: before and after. Goods...

Humble Hammock: DIY: Stripping Furniture

http://humblehammock.blogspot.com/2016/07/diy-stripping-furniture.html

Saturday, July 16, 2016. In due time I'll write a blog post about my Brownie Camera Collection and the hunt that continually ensues. Until then, I'll tell you that I've been looking for a curio cabinet for these beautiful cameras for nearly a decade. Most of my friends have heard about my infatuation with Facebook's garage sale groups. I've alluded to them before. I rarely purchase items but I'm always on the prowl for very specific items. Citristrip (sold at Home Depot) is one of my favorite stripping a...

Humble Hammock: July 2015

http://humblehammock.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Saturday, July 11, 2015. DIY: 30-Minute Scrap Wood Project. If you were following along with DIY projects on the Humble Hammock last winter, you’d have seen the Elfa linen closet makeover. Remember that first photo on the post? Oh, it’s all right I’ll wait… go look at the post…. Yes, I'm wearing pants :). Not sure what I’ll paint on it yet, but I’m thinking I’ll hand letter the prayer we use for dinner and repurpose those frames I designed from Decorate: Dining Room Prayer. Links to this post. The list d...

Breaking news – A textbook worth reading – Seasoned Somewhere

https://seasonedsomewhere.com/2014/04/13/breaking-news-a-textbook-worth-reading

Tastes. Travels. Musings. Breaking news – A textbook worth reading. April 13, 2014. February 26, 2015. Well, this is a definite first. But I’ve had one pretty pleasant discovery as of late: one of the books in my current class. 8230; Really though. I find it tough to skim the chapters. The Stress Effect: Why smart leaders make dumb decisions – and what to do about it. Henry L. Thompson, 2010. On ‘the busy trap’ in the NYT — worth a read.]. A standout chapter in The Stress Effect —. OK, so some of these a...

Tastes. Travels. Musings. We need a new show to binge. (Also, we discovered BONUTS.). May 28, 2015. May 28, 2015. Yes, we were late [way late] to jump on the bandwagon. But, that also means our withdrawals are pretty significant right now. We finished season 3 of House of Cards. So as we wait… impatiently and. 8230; until season 4… what should we watch next? By the way, we JUST got Netflix. #Slackers. Our last few days of binge-watching followed another great trip to Nashville. See what I did there?

No service, fried fish & that time I learned to read again. – Seasoned Somewhere

https://seasonedsomewhere.com/2013/05/27/no-service-fried-fish-that-time-i-learned-to-read-again

Tastes. Travels. Musings. No service, fried fish and that time I learned to read again. May 27, 2013. February 26, 2015. Seriously, there is nothing better than a huge mug of coffee [particularly, as I have more recently discovered, Dancing Goats. Coffee from Cool Beans Espressos. In Syracuse, Ind.] as you wake up to this:. Not much tops the smell of a charcoal grill. 1) I’m OK with anti-social. 2) Television really sucks. I’m a news junkie, a regular viewer of. Downton Abbey , I’m bored with. On my to-d...

That time I broke a record. – Seasoned Somewhere

https://seasonedsomewhere.com/2014/03/30/first-10-that-time-i-broke-a-record

Tastes. Travels. Musings. That time I broke a record. March 30, 2014. February 26, 2015. Well, it seems I’ve missed my calling to either A] be another Gabby Douglas. B] advance toward prima ballerina status [childhood dream, no big deal] or C] become a key performer in Cirque du Soleil. Yes indeed, this week I broke records in female flexibility. But that all slowed down a bit over the last 5 months. I began feeling a pain in my right hip that was inconsistent at first, and then gradually more noticeable...

So this is an adult spring break… – Seasoned Somewhere

https://seasonedsomewhere.com/2014/04/27/first-14-so-this-is-an-adult-spring-break

Tastes. Travels. Musings. So this is an adult spring break…. April 27, 2014. February 26, 2015. 1) A lot of drinking. Husband and I also hosted a pre- craft beer tour brunch [standby for details], marking the first use of our wedding gift champagne glasses for some darn good mimosas [obviously why we registered for them]. Note to self: Barefoot sparkling pinot grigio did not disappoint. And I’m a fan:. 2) Working on my beach bod. Over the pain that sent me there in the first place. The semi-good news: I&...

Channeling my inner Katniss Everdeen. – Seasoned Somewhere

https://seasonedsomewhere.com/2014/06/19/first-16-channeling-my-inner-katniss-everdeen

Tastes. Travels. Musings. Channeling my inner Katniss Everdeen. June 19, 2014. February 26, 2015. Note to those living under rocks: Katniss Everdeen is the lead character in the popular book-now-a-film series The Hunger Games. She’s an accomplished shot with a bow and arrow. Highly recommended reading. If you have never heard of it, I’m already questioning what planet you live on. But do read on.]. When I was in high school, circa age 15, something unprecedented happened. Peeta or Gale, whomever you pref...

On Fridays, we drink beer and eat fries. – Seasoned Somewhere

Tastes. Travels. Musings. On Fridays, we drink beer and eat fries. February 28, 2015. February 28, 2015. I am not even about to complain about this winter after last year’s misery. It’s by no means been a balmy, Super Bowl 2012-status season. And when it’s cold, all the Husband and I want to do is track down the best craft beer and the best, bad-for-you food. Enter: Our Indy winter excursions. After hearing mucho praise for Black Acre Brewing Co. We finally made it to Spoke and Steele. Also, the #frites ...

Wait. She’s doing what…? – Seasoned Somewhere

Tastes. Travels. Musings. Wait She’s doing what…? June 8, 2014. February 26, 2015. It wasn’t until I started reading. By Cheryl Strayed that I truly started to understand what real hiking is. Growing up, hiking was what I would do with my parents for an afternoon. It usually consisted of lugging back a small batch of morels during mushroom season, or finding our way back to our tent during camping trips [no, none of that RV crap. That’s. But my mom is doing something totally different. A few years ago, w...

Tastes. Travels. Musings. California for 72 hours. April 8, 2014. February 26, 2015. There’s something seriously great about the small escapes. Husband recently jetted out to California for work [his first time! Now those I can work with. And perhaps surprisingly, we were able to do some pretty great things in a pretty short time. Like, renting a car…. 8230; and leaving L.A. I’ll say it: The best part of going to L.A. is leaving L.A. I have. On Earth do you study? We discovered Marmalade Cafe. Fun story:...

Humble Hammock

Sunday, December 18, 2016. I bought this adorable, snake-skin collar necklace from Kohls a few years ago. Like most accessories, it began to show wear and the glue from the snake skin began to peel off. Rather than throw it away, I decided to attempt to re-skin it with some new material. I bought a roll of sticky drawer liner from Target (yep, for $2), and cut it to fit by tracing the old snake-sin pieces. I then peeled the back of my cutouts and stuck them to the necklace!
