There are the numbers, of course: the dead, the displaced, the violated and dehumanized. What astonishes me is the frequency with which the unresolved matters keep emerging from unexpected areas. There is the archeological dig in Berlin which has uncovered art thought to be "degenerate" by the arbiters elegantiarum.
