Huntspatch Quilts

January 7, 2017. Log Cabin Carpenter's Star - a memory quilt. My father passed away this past spring, at age 93. As a memory tribute, I decided to make a quilt from his shirts. My dad was a builder, so a Carpenter's Star design seemed appropriate. It also seemed appropriate to use log cabin blocks. I cut strips from his shirts at 1.5 inches, for blocks that finish at 9 inches. For quilting in the diamonds, I chose a peacock feather motif (we had peafowl on our farm when I was young). For the binding, I w...

Huntspatch Quilts: Double G Picnic

https://huntspatchquilts.blogspot.com/2016/01/double-g-picnic.html

January 1, 2016. About the time I started my table runner. Project featuring Melody Miller's Picnic fabrics. We visited some friends for an Independence Day celebration. Their red, white, and blue gingham place mats inspired a larger quilt featuring the Picnic apple prints:. The quilt construction is very simple, and it came together quickly using strip piecing, with little waste. (UPDATE: I have a tutorial for this quilt here. The binding is Picnic Blanket in red:. For Finish It Up Friday. Its just beau...

Huntspatch Quilts: Picnic Quilt Tutorial

https://huntspatchquilts.blogspot.com/2016/03/picnic-quilt-tutorial.html

March 21, 2016. I thought I'd write a tutorial of how I approached the construction of my Double G Picnic quilt. Of course this quilt could be made by simply sewing together a bunch of squares, but I used strip piecing techniques which I felt were quite efficient and might be worth sharing. The yardage requirements for the top are as follows:. White - 1.5 yards. Blue print (apples) - 1.5 yards. Red print (apples) - 1.5 yards. Dark blue - 0.5 yards. Dark red - 0.5 yards. Gray - 0.75 yards. Take a strip se...

Huntspatch Quilts: November 2016

https://huntspatchquilts.blogspot.com/2016_11_01_archive.html

November 18, 2016. House Blocks for do.good.stitches. As a member of the Believe circle of do.good.stitches. An online charity bee), I make a few blocks each month and send them off to the designated quilter for that month. This month, we were asked to make house blocks, using any design we wish. Here is the block using Tim Holtz fabric. It looks more like a barn, which I suppose is not a bad thing. And here is the block using hot air balloons:. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I began quilting in 2011, and I...

Huntspatch Quilts: May 2016

May 30, 2016. Tim Holtz Creative Journey Quilt. Many thanks to Barbara Black. For capturing a couple of photos for me at the recent Quilt Market in Salt Lake City. I had entered a block. In the Tim Holtz Creative Journey block challenge. And it was selected as one of the blocks to be made into a quilt. My block is in the third row, third from the left. I so appreciate Barbara's efforts to find the quilt and get photos - and I think it is cool that Tim Holtz is in the photo too! May 6, 2016. For the quilt...

Huntspatch Quilts: A Super Tote

https://huntspatchquilts.blogspot.com/2016/05/a-super-tote.html

May 6, 2016. I made a bag for my daughter using the Super Tote pattern by Anna Graham ( Noodlehead. The fabrics are from the Drift Away collection by Sue Schlabach, plus Andover Chambray in mustard. For the quilting, I outlined her initial on the front pocket, and filled in the background by following the chevrons in the fabric. For the back, I just quilted along the chevrons. I had read where some folks struggled with the multiple layers of interfacing at the pleat in the gusset, so I trimmed the interf...

Sew Some Sunshine: November 2016

http://sewsomesunshine.blogspot.com/2016_11_01_archive.html

Saturday, November 12, 2016. Had a challenge for November to create a mug rug using only two colors. I chose blue and green because I think it's a classic combination and I decided to try out a paper pieced star from Carol Doak's 50 Fabulous Paper Pieced Stars. This is a great book if you like paper piecing, you can make so many different combinations of stars and you can change the block size using your copy machine/printer. I have a small pinterest board for star inspiration you can see here.

Sew Some Sunshine: Holiday Runner

http://sewsomesunshine.blogspot.com/2016/12/holiday-runner.html

Friday, December 16, 2016. It's getting close.we're in the home stretch of getting ready for the holidays! I've had so much going on at home these past few months. We've been fixing bathrooms and getting floors refinished. That means the house is in disarray, along with the sewing room. We are getting back to normal and finally have our tree up today, so things are improving for sure. I love the black, red, and white colors on this fabric, along with the fun Christmas motifs. Good luck with your finishes!

Sew Some Sunshine: August 2016

http://sewsomesunshine.blogspot.com/2016_08_01_archive.html

Saturday, August 27, 2016. Scrappy Trip Progress and Tips. Summer's gone by so quickly! I've been working on my scrappy trip quilt with mostly Anna Maria Horner fabrics. This is part of my Quarter 3 list. For the 2016 Finish-A-Long. I have a feeling I won't make the completion deadline for Q3, but that's okay, I'll just add it to Q4. I was inspired by this quilt. If you make the block with an uneven number of strips, be sure to lay the tube flat and even prior to cutting or you will get wonky strip sets.

Sew Some Sunshine: Mini Tree Skirt

http://sewsomesunshine.blogspot.com/2015/10/mini-tree-skirt.html

Friday, October 9, 2015. To make it special I decided to make a mini tree skirt. I made a paper template of a 60 degree wedge and used three fabrics. I cut a quarter sized circle in the center to make room for the trunk. I used this tutorial. For bias cut binding, a must when you have a circle (otherwise it won't lay flat.) It's going to be super cute with the little tree. Here it is in progress, so you can see how I put it together:. Linking up with crazymomquilts. Judy @ Sew Some Sunshine.

Film in the Fridge. A single irish chain quilt top. July 1, 2015. I’ve never made an irish chain quilt, though I’ve admired them. I seem to be drawn to quilts made of two colors, but as of yet I’ve not been able to actually limit myself to just two colors. Obviously I couldn’t do it here either, though I did sorta limit myself to navy and gold (and gray…oops! This quilt was inspired by this Anthropologie shower curtain I stumbled upon on Pinterest.
