Martin Buser was the first musher to depart Willow Lake and the first person to depart Finger Lake. The trail conditions are ideal for his team that likes to run fast. Buser had his fastest Iditarod race in 2002 and the record for 9 years until Kotzebue musher John Baker became the fastest race record holder with 8d18h46m39s in 2011. One can only assume he wants his record back! 2002 Buser 33 hrs.

Wednesday, March 25, 2009. Crow Village Iditarod Awards. The Iditarod Trail Committee handed out 11 awards plus a Dodge pickup this year. This has inspired us to hand out a few awards of our own. The winners can collect their prizes in person at Crow Village Alaska. During the subsistence fishing season this summer. We had to take our blog out of the running to give everyone else a chance. This year's award goes to Jon Little. This was a tossup between Gwen Holdmann of Ken Anderson's Windy Creek Kennel.

Volledig uitgerust trok ik met mijn broer over the grens richting de Rocky Mountains, Seeley Lake, Montana, VS om deel te nemen aan Seeley Lake 300. We wisten toen al dat er dagtemperaturen waren voorspelt ver boven het vriespunt ( /- 5 tot 10 C! Met deze redenen had de organisatie besloten geen risico’s te.
