My purple hayes days. If the words "locally produced" and "sustainable" conjure up images of a granola-snacking survivalist for you, then it's time to drop the Ikea catalog and contemplate vintage with me. Because mass consumerism is an ecological and environmental disaster. And, really, nothing compares with having something made with care. These goods were handpicked by me especially for you:. This is a jar of pickles I got.from Texas! Memories, Milestones and Forgettable Moments. Here’s a throwb...

my purple hayes days: The Simple Life
http://mypurplehayesdays.blogspot.com/2008/12/simple-life.html
My purple hayes days. Since there was no point in reasoning with him any further, I considered the conversation closed. But he began to explain to me that soon he will be four and then he will be five and then six and then seven (he stopped at thirteen), insinuating that he is big now, but he will get bigger and bigger as time goes on. So I told him that when he turns four, I will miss him. And he told me that he will miss me too. When his father walked into the room, Hayes told him he will miss him too.

my purple hayes days: Speak No More Evil
http://mypurplehayesdays.blogspot.com/2008/10/speak-no-more-evil.html
My purple hayes days. Speak No More Evil. A weird thing happens when you have a child. All of a sudden you must watch what you say. I've heard it a thousand times but I never actually do it because, truth be told, I'm not a potty mouth. But it wasn't until recently when Hayes told me, in a very unconcerned way, that he thought I was going to kill myself that it really sank in. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). My purple hayes days. Flash back to your fondest memory of the first day of school. Much can be said about first days of school everywhere, but has anyone ever gleaned a fond memory of even one of them? Well, moms have it twice as hard. We're not only haunted by our own childhood memories of the first day of school, but we experience it all over again every time our children do. So, finally, one sure thing mothers and children can unite over; the dreaded first day of school. Boo-hoo! Let the tears flow!

Design, Data, and Delicious. Linked: The New Science of Networks. Yay for the UX book club! It's always nice to participate in such inspired discussions. This month we had a great conversation about networks as described by Barabasi. I had a desire to ask if anyone wanted to play Power Grid. But held myself back, not wanting to disturb the natural conversation with my non sequitur. For the love of the grid. It's always amazing to me how much difference. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Design, Data, and Delicious. James Squire Guide to Beer. I love the way visualizations simplify decisionmaking. On a recent trip to Sydney I had dinner at James Squire,. And when deciding which of their signature beers to pair with my meal, the following chart made my task a lot easier:. It brought to mind this. Lovely number that was on display last year at Bobby Van's Steakhouse. By Barry Schwartz and Nudge. I'd wager the categories are endless. It highlights to me the importance of empathy in desi...

Design, Data, and Delicious. Apparently twelve people makes a cocktail party, twelve being neatly divisible by two, three, four, and six. I wonder how often we see naturally occurring instances of this kind of numerical relationship in Emily Post? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Design, Data, and Delicious. So I just uploaded my first processing sketch to Open Processing. I finished the first three chapters in the Shiffman Processing text, so stay tuned for more sketches! Oh the horror of those things languishing in the deep recesses of the storage spaces in my apartment. The truth is, I nearly killed my sewing machine putting this little beauty together, and am loathe for a repeat performance. Haven't you ever wanted to wrap yourself in a song? When I was in design school.
