I bombarded our local BBC website with so many articles they asked me if I’d like to have a microphone and be the local community reporter for Radio Wales. Armed with a Flash Mic, headphones and training my job is to put forward stories of local interest that would appeal across Wales. If accepted and commissioned by a producer I record and edit a ‘package’ and send it over the internet to Cardiff where the BBC put the final touches to it. By a group of enthusiastic volunteers. Not Just a Pretty Place Survival in Snowdonia. Is a collection of 32 stories linked by the theme of survival. Some things are thriving whilst others, like the Snowdon Lily, are just hanging on. The stories link landscape, people and wildlife into an optimistic view of the future with subjects as diverse as the rare and elusive pine marten, freshwater pearl mussels and local foods. Underneath the humour and optimism, however, there are serious messages about the viability of our lifestyles.

I particularly enjoyed working with the National Trust to create a booklet about Hafod y Llan, the 4,000 acre farm that stretches to the summit of Snowdon and which was purchased in 1998 following a massive public appeal that raised 5m.
