Patrick's Cochlear Hybrid Journey. Maddening to wait. Scary experience this morning! June 24, 2015. June 24, 2015. Patience can sometimes run short as I wait for increased clarity and understanding with my device. But it takes time! The length of time is variable and cannot be predicted well. After 6 months, there should be noticeable improvement and certainly after a couple of years. Already I’ve noticed improvement and I’m just shy of three months. Music has more depth! June 8, 2015. Patrick's Cochlear Hybrid Journey. February 28, 2015. February 28, 2015. February 13, 2015. My insurance approved my Cochlear Hybrid surgery today! I am so thrilled and lucky! This is a new procedure, with the implant focused only on the high frequencies, and thus there can be a back and forth between the insurance and doctors that takes a while. Well, the procedure was approved without any of that interference and I am so glad I can now say that I will be implanted in March! Blog at WordPress.com.

Patrick's Cochlear Hybrid Journey. Sudden discoveries and Coping. April 28, 2015. I meant to blog earlier, but I’ve been so occupied making sure the components of the hybrid cochlear implant are in place that it hasn’t been easy. It’s been stressful, but I have to remind myself that this issue is just one thing that can happen in the process and it’ll now likely be figured out! It’s yet another component that I have to accept I cannot control. The new tones are starting to blend into natural hearing.

Patrick's Cochlear Hybrid Journey. Retained residual hearing after surgery! March 31, 2015. I have great news! Before the hybrid device came along, retaining low frequency residual (existing) hearing was not the focus as the conventional surgery was designed to cover the entire frequency range. The new surgery offers the possibility of keeping low frequency hearing providing the possibility for people like me to keep my hearing while enhancing the higher frequencies with the implant. Today I had a three month post-activation follow up and since last month, my understanding of sentences has nearly doubled! I was absolutely shocked and my audiologist was thrilled. But needless to say this is thrilling information! Other scores also continued a tremendous increase and I look forward to future improvements. My next test will be next month!
