This post came about when I was contacted on Facebook by Alison Hayton, who's Great 'Nan' kept the cafe pictured below. Alison's Great Nan was Mary Ellen Hitchen who lived at 187 Lumn Road Hyde, Mary died in 1961 when she was aged 71. She was the widow of Job Hitchen. They were originally from York. It was sent in to us by Mark Shaw ,who is on the back row , second from the right. Don't they look little angels! The teachers are , if my memory serves me correctly , Miss French on the left and headmistress Mrs Woodley on the right! Festival of Britain Mural. Tuesday, 31 August 2010. The Bricklayers was a pub situated on Reynold Street. It was a very busy pub at one time owing to the fact that it was in a densely populated area and also because it was next door to the Ritz Cinema which has now sadly gone to be replaced by Iceland Frozen Food centre.
