Two Catholic liturgical musicians musing on the state of affairs in contemporary Catholic church music, and/or whatever else comes to mind. Sunday, April 20, 2008. Pärt’s magnificent Beatitudes setting. I’m not sure how this is legal, but here is a very good recording of Arvo Pärt’s setting of the Beatitudes:. Cantate Deo: Colloquium 2008
http://cantatedeo.blogspot.com/2008/06/colloquium-2008.html
Two Catholic liturgical musicians musing on the state of affairs in contemporary Catholic church music, and/or whatever else comes to mind. Monday, June 23, 2008. I have thoroughly enjoyed sleeping in my own bed and hugging my children, but I wish I could have left my ears in Chicago. Some of the music that I heard last week was a true foretaste of the heavenly banquet . . . Kudos to all those who worked to make the Colloquium as fabulous as it was. Nearly everything was wonderful. Links to this post.

Cantate Deo: A “great” parish??
http://cantatedeo.blogspot.com/2008/05/great-parish.html
Two Catholic liturgical musicians musing on the state of affairs in contemporary Catholic church music, and/or whatever else comes to mind. Tuesday, May 06, 2008. Http:/ www.stclementofrome.org/. Apparently this parish was judged to be great in some sort of review of parishes across the country. Maybe it’s just my own prejudice, but the front page does not seem to me to depict a church whose sanctuary cares to communicate that anything great happens there! Posted by Cantor @ 9:08 AM. Two Catholic liturgical musicians musing on the state of affairs in contemporary Catholic church music, and/or whatever else comes to mind. Saturday, September 30, 2006. Not at all related to church music (unless you count the Requiem for Messiaen), but these are hilarious P.D.Q. Bach-ish little-known works:. Http:/ search.freefind.com/find.html? My favorite is the Schubert piano concerto where he breaks off the manuscript with My God, this is so boring! Posted by Cantor @ 7:48 PM. Links to this post.

Cantate Deo: Formality
http://cantatedeo.blogspot.com/2008/05/formality.html
Two Catholic liturgical musicians musing on the state of affairs in contemporary Catholic church music, and/or whatever else comes to mind. Wednesday, May 07, 2008. I think I have it. I have figured out what feels wrong to me about, say, Tom Booth Find Us Ready at Mass, or even just One Bread, One Body :. What is at odds between some types of music and the nature of the liturgy is the lack of formality present in the environs that society associates with the music’s characteristics. Two Catholic liturgical musicians musing on the state of affairs in contemporary Catholic church music, and/or whatever else comes to mind. Friday, May 23, 2008. Confirmations were a bit of a hectic affair this year. We had 150 or so confirmandi, two of whom were choir members, so I’ve been organizing surprise gifts/cards for them. Out there might recognize the connection. Nothing that remarkable otherwise. Posted by Cantor @ 10:30 PM. Links to this post. Links to this post:. Jimmy Akin’s blog.

Two Catholic liturgical musicians musing on the state of affairs in contemporary Catholic church music, and/or whatever else comes to mind. Thursday, May 22, 2008. Some things just aren’t supposed to happen. I have the joy of having made a few pretty close friends down here—close, that is, for having known them less than a year and a half. Or, maybe reminded subconsciously of my own recent family loss, which was not a tragedy at all but still hard. Posted by Cantor @ 12:03 AM. Links to this post. What Do...

Two Catholic liturgical musicians musing on the state of affairs in contemporary Catholic church music, and/or whatever else comes to mind. Tuesday, November 21, 2006. Honestly, why do these people bother? What you find at the above editorial is a one-page-ish rant that the Church still teaches things that the (anonymous? Writer apparently finds inconvenient. Love to the act of breeding. The teaching on contraception, as I see it, is that sex is inseparable from procreation, just as it is inseparable fro...
