how much is enough | living gently in a violent world

Living gently in a violent world. With, hopefully, nothing left for Caesar. How much is enough. But enough about my vittles. The flights were very long and terrible. But then we arrived. And the hotel was very. And we were not tired or angry and we did not argue or cry like the first time. It was bliss. And still, unbelievably, I was not happy. I felt like a Brontë character – an aristocratic tosser with literally every luxury and pleasure at my disposal, and still – I was not happy. Laquo; Previous Post.

Listen to your life. Laquo; the bleak will inherit the earth? This entry was posted by jaybercrow. On Monday, 29 December, 2014 at. A more modest goal this year: simply to make a note of three records, three movies and three books that have stayed with me and followed me around, that made some kind of lasting impact, that have lingered in my memory and my thoughts. You might like them too. Looks like I’m here with a guy that I judge worse than anyone else. Kiss the World Beautiful. You can leave a comment.

Listen to your life. A room without books is like a body without a soul. Sunday, December 29, 2013. So without further ado, here are the five (fiction) books which have most inspired and intrigued me this year:. A Place In Time (Wendell Berry). For Whom the Bell Tolls (Ernest Hemingway). Wonder (R.J. Palacios). The Mill on the Floss (George Eliot). Jayber Crow, Hannah Coulter. Other books I enjoyed this year which didn’t make the final list? Let The Great World Spin. And The Mountains Echoed. A reminder ...

Listen to your life. Laquo; three albums. This entry was posted by jaybercrow. On Wednesday, 31 December, 2014 at. This has been a good year for movies, and I’ll mention a few I loved at the end. But first, I want to pick out three that delivered a deep impact on me and stirred my soul in some way:. Would we be any better? And now for something completely different! Into My Arms,. How Long Will I Love You? And Ben Folds’. Lay aside your cynicism and let yourself be delighted. You can leave a comment.

Thoughts here and there! Friday, 29 March 2013. Deconstruction of problematic masculinity. If the argument by a section of feminist society is true, that all women are born feminist,. Then by that simple definition then I do not qualify to be one, nevertheless I will leave it for you to judge after reading this short read. I have been following the just concluded/disputed Kenyan elections with lots of interest. With power by bring in a small highlight of the Maasai community in the background. In recent ...

Thoughts here and there! Thursday, 31 October 2013. Kenya travelling on a slippery path of gagging the media. Historically the mention of the words ‘Kenyan MPs’ seems to elicit something of negative bias. Though it can be said that they have made a huge contribution to the democratization and development of our nation, their sins are of equal measure. Every time we make a move forward as a nation these leaders seems to take us two or more steps backwards. We hate when we hear others call us corrupt, diso...

Thoughts here and there! Friday, 30 August 2013. The continuous Kenyan-road carnage is shocking and a shame! What happened to the sanctity of life and human dignity? These two terms "sanctity of life" and "human dignity" have differing histories but one thing is sure-they are at home within differing cultures. Regardless of whichever background we are from, everyone agrees that human life and human dignity are inviolable! For this reason, he declared, God had prohibited that humans be killed, not only in...

Thoughts here and there! Monday, 25 November 2013. My encounter with anti-terrorism/Drug-unit police this morning. I had just boarded a bus this morning when just after a few minutes at around 5.07am it came to a halt. Few passengers alighted and more boarded. The last to board was a young, athletic man in his late twenties or early thirties judging from his demeanor. Swiping his oyster card, the system returned a red beep to signal that he did not have enough crediton his card. They say-the customer is ...

Thoughts here and there! Tuesday, 26 June 2012. The State of Christianity in Africa Today. The question I wish to think about is, ‘What is Christianity? What is the Past, Present and the future of Christianity in Africa? Again I am not offering to give answers to them but hope we can critically look at these issues through the mirror of scriptures and what I would call ‘simple’ people. Thoughts here and there! Saturday, 28 November 2015. Pope Francis visit to Kenya and the subject of God’s preferential option for the poor. A bit of a background of Pope Francis. He was born in Latin America (developing continent), Buenos Aires. Argentina. Through his life he has been a champion of humility and actively involved in the concern for the poor. His humility as a way of life has stood out for him. Notably, his choice to live in a guesthouse instead of the Apostolic Palace. Boff had criticized...
