Number Twos: March 2010
http://numbertwos.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 30, 2010. A couple of years ago I was freelancing for a company in Spitalfields, East London. Befitting of the E1 postcode the offices were extremely funky. In the basement there was a kitchen area and three large, red leatherette, high-backed booths. A bit like an American diner. A male voice speaks first, “So how was your weekend? 8220;Not brilliant,” a female voice replies, “I was up at my parents.”. Then the guy speaks, “Do you mind me asking…? I hold my breath. No way I’m mi...The gir...

Number Twos: From there to here: my UC story at a glance
http://numbertwos.blogspot.com/2010/04/from-there-to-here-my-uc-story-at.html
Tuesday, April 6, 2010. From there to here: my UC story at a glance. I started Number Twos. In July 2007, a couple of months after my first major flare-up and hospitalisation. If I had anything as grand as a founding principle it was to try to be as honest as possible. So as a record of my life with ulcerative colitis I think it’s pretty accurate. But recently I became curious about how the doctors have charted my illness, so I asked for a copy of my medical records. Finally, my medical records are a hef...

Left a comment saying how he often found himself asking, “Why me? 8221; It gave me an idea for a post, because in all the years I’ve had ulcerative colitis I’ve never thought like that. And I think one of the reasons why I’ve never cried up at the heavens in despair, “Why me? 8217; I never finished writing the post, but on the right hand page below you can read as far as I got. Number Twos: April 2009

Thursday, April 30, 2009. Wednesday's diary on a Thursday 5.8. If ever I get disheartened with having a colostomy bag I only have to look back in my diary to see just how horrible things were before my operation. Compare this week from early February with today's WDOAT. I know which one I prefer. Breakfast 6 x mesalazine 400mg, 2 x calcichew. Dinner 4 x azathioprine 50mg. Bedtime 6 x mesalazine 400mg. Nothing untoward to report. Sticking with the calcichew for the time being. Can't hurt. When I was at sc...

Friday, March 27, 2009. A Patient’s Handy Guide to Surviving Hospital. You can get them in any good pharmacy. Essential for a good night's sleep. Unless you particularly want to listen to the agonising squeals of a 72-year-old having a catheter inserted at 3 o’clock in the morning, pop a couple of these little foam lifesavers in your lugholes. Better than sleeping pills. Just take 2 before bed. Keep a ready supply of chewing gum handy. Make sure you’ve got plenty of change. Have you got anything smaller?

Does anyone know where the gents are? Followers. Nearly all girls. As far as I know UC affects men and women equally, so where are the chaps? Are men just less comfortable talking about their illnesses? Do they prefer to tough it out in hairy-chested, square-jawed, manly silence? Friday, November 20, 2009.

Monday, June 29, 2009. She said it again! 8221; “Hmm? 8221; “Oh, I was just saying there was a fella back there called Dibble.” I lie. Following my girlfriend out of the churchyard I concede that she’s probably right. If I’d lived in the 19th century, in a time before asacol, azathioprine, prednisolone, colonoscopies and colostomies, life would have been very different. And significantly shorter. Sunday, June 28, 2009. My body and soul. Alan Carr, comedian, 33 – once kept a friend company over night.
