Adventures in Home Brewing. Laquo; Decoction mash… Oh boy. January 30, 2011. So after a day of travel, the Discovery channel gave me a nice gift. An hour long show titled “How Beer Saved the World.” Very interesting show, fun brewing history. And lots of ideas for homebrewing. Will post on experimentations when I start some. February 1, 2011 at 8:09 pm. Although, can’t be worse than chocolate mint, can it? February 1, 2011 at 8:09 pm. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.

Adventures in Home Brewing. Decoction mash… Oh boy. January 30, 2011. With Bock being the next style on schedule for competition at my local club, I decided to attempt an old brewing technique called decoction mash. Nerd alert* will have a part on definitions. This gives the beer a rich malty taste and aroma, which is desired in a Bock style beer. Hence the reason I went the extra mile going through the fun of decoction mash. Posted in Brew Day Capers. Strong Scotch Ale | Brewing @ Home

Adventures in Home Brewing. Laquo; TV viewing pleasure. February 4, 2011. Beam me up… Accidents seemed to follow me this brew day, luckily none which could spoil the beer, and all of which could be cleaned with a mop. Yes, I seemed to had an issue with keeping the wort where it belonged, and not where it didn’t. Which I was able to successfully clean up before the wife returned home. Rule one of brew day: Pay attention. If you don’t, pots collecting runoff will overflow. Posted in Brew Day Capers. Enter ...

Last week in the rose garden… | longtallyarn
https://longtallyarn.wordpress.com/2016/06/16/last-week-in-the-rose-garden
Just another WordPress.com site. Last week in the rose garden…. When I decided to plant a few roses I started by doing the research. You know, the best thing about doing something new is the research. The internet is great– I really like the gardenweb forum. I started to ask my spouse if he and the boys would like to tour a rose garden with me. Then I recovered my senses and asked whether he would mind me taking a day trip without him to see the Wilson Rose Garden. In the Old Garden section there were se...

Just another WordPress.com site. During the day while I was at work…. Twin B spilled Twin A’s milk at breakfast, intentionally. A spilled A’s milk at breakfast, intentionally. One of the twins pooped on the floor upstairs. We aren’t sure this was an accident. If you know our family well, you will know who did it, and you may suspect considering the age of the perpetrator, that it was an intentional. Twin A immediately switched on the lights and verified that they still work. Oso left for work and I was o...

Just another WordPress.com site. I’m in the mood to share a few pics today. I realize I have been really remiss on pics of the boys. I just don’t get the camera out very often. And when I do the results are tentative. But my friend and neighbor, who has a special bond with my children, is a great photographer and she makes each gift of babysitting into a photoshoot. I am so thankful! These are portraits she did last summer. I could have dressed them better, but I wasn’t expecting pics! May 9, 2016. Join ...
How does that happen? | longtallyarn
https://longtallyarn.wordpress.com/2016/10/12/how-does-that-happen
Just another WordPress.com site. How does that happen? My sons, age 4.5, are starting to ask important life-span questions. They want to know how long they will live, relative to how long they have already lived. They need help to put things in perspective. They want to know the ages of certain people in their lives. They want to know about stages of life. They want to know about babies…. Last weekend, I fielded a series of questions that went like this. Twin B: How old will I be when I have a baby?

Halloween Plans 2016 | longtallyarn
https://longtallyarn.wordpress.com/2016/09/20/halloween-2016
Just another WordPress.com site. Halloween is coming up and we get a Halloween costume catalog every fall. This year and last, the twins seized the book with excitement, to see what they could become. I’m not a huge fan of the dark holiday, but to my 4-year-olds, it’s not about celebrating the dark. It’s about seeing who or what they can become. I suppose that’s an idea they celebrate every day at this phase. Quit pushing that button or I’m going to go flying up there and bust through the roof! You are c...

The Handy Husband, vol. 3 | longtallyarn

Just another WordPress.com site. The Handy Husband, vol. 3. My spouse has done it again: He sets his mind on improving our lives and then something we need materializes. I would have cropped out some of the weeds and spare bricks you see here, but look at the bat-house, not our house! Blood sucking, vicious,. My plans to raise my little babies on rich woman’s fare (pecans) instead of poor woman’s fare (peanut butter) failed. But I didn’t give up. Knitalong: Casting on to Gansey | longtallyarn
https://longtallyarn.wordpress.com/2016/09/16/knitalong-casting-on-to-gansey
Just another WordPress.com site. Knitalong: Casting on to Gansey. Ahoy and Bon Voyage! We have embarked on our Knit to Gansey! As for me, I have cast on Beth Brown-Reinsel’s Snakes and Ladders and have completed the bottom band and about two inches of the body of the traditional plain section. Let’s start from the cast on, shall we? There are several traditional methods of adding stitches to the needles, gansey style. I have tried three of them, including. Channel Island cast-on, used in the sampler.

Local Community Board ( www.LocalCommunityBoard.com. Was my first step in getting the word out about small towns through the web. To make things a little interesting I started making home brew as a hobby. Through this process I have learned its not about making great beer but more about community and sharing with other people while hearing their opinions on your creation. This is just the beginning! 1 MAKE AMAZING BEER, teach people how to make their own, and educate those on its affects.

I Brew Beer, Me!
I Brew Beer, Me! Beer: To the Art, from the start. And there’s more . . . . Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza. -Dave Barry. Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. -Benjamin Franklin. He was a wise man who invented beer. -Plato. Yes, beer is pretty great. But it also has a very weird history, as these facts attest. 2 Beer is Dangerous.

I Brew Beer and Cook Food
Monday, January 5, 2015. Beer: I Built a Hop Spider. So this weekend I randomly decided to build a hop spider. I was watching a video by Chop and Brew. About a beer they brewed and aged it in a Woodinville Whiskey Rye Barrel. I noticed they were using one in the video. It seems like a neat idea for an easier cleanup. So I looked up how to do it here. And made a trip to Lowe's to pickup some supplies. After posting on reddit. More to come on the new store we're opening! Friday, January 2, 2015. I just cam...
