A paper on monitor placement for attack source attribution will be presented at Broadcom 2007 in September 2007. We provided a final project report in June 2007. Status of the Project. The FootFall project has completed at this time. We have demonstrated the effectiveness and practicality of watermarking, and achieved the best results in terms of generality, effectiveness, and efficiency (minimum number of packets needed) of any known technique. We evaluated both FreeBSD and Linux for our software development. FreeBSD has generally been regarded as higher quality for networking protocol development, but Linux has made great progress in catching up in this regard. Linux has a much wider developer community.
