Next morning we woke up to snow! Not much, but enough blowing around on the wind to get us both grinning like kids, despite the fiercely biting wind coming down off the mountains. We’d decided to have a drive south to Vatnajokull, the largest glacier in Iceland, covering more than 8% of the entire country. Not only is it a massive. Jason had finished. So Moglet had to finish the job herself, with a little help from Jason. Really must make a mental note that next time we use someone else’s compressor, we start off filling the tyre thats directly behind the exhaust, rather than leaving it until last -. That way, Jason doesnt have to suck in poison for ten minutes while the tyre fills up. A good plan, I think. You really wouldn’t want to misjudge them in the snow, there was only a few inches either side for Moglet to get through.

Next morning we awoke to the sounds of the large group of 4x4’s making their way towards us, intent on following the track that last night we’d decided was just a bit too cheeky to follow! Turns out they’d had a chat with the campsite owners and been told that although it was in a bit of a sorry state, the track was legitimate and ok to follow. Next morning there was still plenty of snow around but not much more had fallen. Still fixed on our plans from yesterday we headed out towards Herdubreid, back along the road that was last covered in corrugations -. This time it was covered in snow! Jason was especially pleased with a deep snow section, managing to get Moglets back end fishtailing a couple of times as we swerved out way down the small hill. I wish I could convey to him that. Next morning there was snow -. And lots of it! It was pretty patchy in places but most of it appeared to drift all around Moglet -. I guess she must have done something to the wind in the night which meant that 200m down the road there was only a few inches on the ground, but behind Moglet it was several feet deep :-. Arriving at the Faroes. Driving France to Denmark. We’ve spent the last three years away from our house in Suffolk in the UK, wandering through Scotland and France and lots of Morocco in our Unimog camper called Moglet, mostly detailed on www.moglet.co.uk. And www.mogletinafrica.co.uk. On 14th August 2011 we left central France to travel 2000km north to Hirtshals in Denmark, with a ferry booked for the 20th to Iceland, via the Faroe Islands. Herdubreid and lava fields. Breakdown in the snow!
