Skógafoss a magnificent waterfall in the Skógá River, on the south coast of Iceland. It is located on the cliffs of the former coastline. After the coastline had receded seaward the former sea cliffs remained, parallel to the coast over hundreds of kilometres, creating, with mountains a clear border between the coastal lowlands and the Highlands of Iceland.

The glacier Sólheimajökull is the southwestern outlet of the Mýrdalsjökull glacier. It is around 8 km long and 1 – 2 km wide. Jokulsa river discharges it, and is sometimes called The foul River because of its emission of sulphuric acid. The glacier has advanced about 900 metres during the last few centuries, but has retreated from 1930 to 1964. In the 90 s it grew and almost managed to cover the Jökulhaus hill. Lagoons developed in the side valleys and one of them often emptied very suddenly.

The solar storm hit Iceland with a crazy show of Northern Lights, making it impossible to stop photographing until it was over. At the time I was guiding a private tour and we were in a great location at the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, around Kirkjufell, Kirkjufellsfoss waterfall and the narrow fjord of Kolgrafarfjörður.
