Idle Wanderer

Sunday, October 23, 2011. Colorado's colors: 3 trips from 3 weeks. Georgetown never fails to remind me of how simply people lived back in the day, and how beautiful it must have been in the 1870s when the town was bustling. The road up to Guanella Pass near the trailhead of a couple 14ers is one of the premiere drives in the state when it comes to fall colors. And some short hikes aren't bad either. The Tyndall Glacier to the right. one of the few remaining glaciers in the park. A chill evening at Bear L...

Idle Wanderer: The back-up plan: Mt. Belford and Oxford

http://idle-wanderer.blogspot.com/2011/09/back-up-plan-mt-belford-and-oxford.html

Sunday, September 25, 2011. The back-up plan: Mt. Belford and Oxford. When life gives you lemons, just say “screw it.” Go climb a mountain on a whim – on a fleeting moment of wanting something more out of a weekend than homework and routine. It worked for me. For nearly three weeks I was planning something that, to me, would have not only been an amazing weekend but also a weekend that may have gotten me a job. A few weeks ago, we headed out this way. After an evening at the Eddy Line restaurant and ...

Idle Wanderer: June 2011

http://idle-wanderer.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Sunday, June 26, 2011. Mt Bierdstadt and Evans via the Sawtooth traverse. Click pictures for full screen. How great it was to break out the tent, load up the car and drive west to the mountain – a destination not visited for way too long. After nearly 3 months of living my day-by-day life where internships at newspapers, working at the bookstore and constantly training for fall marathons occupy the majority of minutes throughout the day, Mel and I were finally able to both get two days off from everything.

Idle Wanderer: May 2011

http://idle-wanderer.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

Saturday, May 14, 2011. Summer Kickoff - Getaway to Rocky Mountain National Park. The faint sounds of dripping rain water and panic-stricken college kids gave way to a glorious sound of ice cracking and robin's singing their constant, springtime song. Finals week had finally concluded. To cap off a long and arduous semester filled with both tedious and meaningless classes as well enticing and difficult ones, I did what seemed obvious - I went to the mountains. To be honest, I really didn't care where it ...

Let's get in touch! Bike America, 2012. Tales from the Road. Who is Jason Pohl? Reflection Part 1: How the trip changed me for the better . and made me hate Prius drivers. I'm not sure if it was when I was boarding my JetBlue flight bound for Colorado August 13 or going back to work in retail the following day when I realized something fundamental about myself. I don't do well with structure. That could have also been when I was sitting in Denver's wonderful gridlock traffic. That idea of knowing that if...

Let's get in touch! Bike America, 2012. Tales from the Road. Who is Jason Pohl? Race report: San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon 2014. And then the implosion. It's amazing how quickly a 6:44min/mile pace can fade into the rearview mirror. It's even more psychologically debilitating when that happens as a result of one's lung capacity being reduced by about a third, coupled with fluid buildup in that can leave a skull feeling like a waterlogged baseball. Until six days before the big day. I went out for an e...

Idle Tuesdays

Meanders along tangents wayward and pretty. A chorus of coughs, sniffles and I'm so tireds. Welcome to Idle Tuesdays - a webspace for me to share moments, usually of the creative variety, and indulge in promoting my own thoughts and voice, which let's face it - all blogs are: self-indulgent morsels of junk food. I offer more comfort food. Less of the junk. Thank you for visiting. The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter. Announcing the chilled new dawn,.

Idle-Tyme. The Original Rolling Ball Clock

Idle Tyme the Original Rolling Ball Block. THE ORIGINAL ROLLING BALL CLOCK. It has been almost 30 years since Harley was working on the last of these original clocks when he passed away in October of 1985 from a massive heart attack. That day was the last day any clocks were made. It was just far too emotional for any of us to continue on making these clocks. But time heals all wounds, and Joe, Harleys son, is starting up a limited production of the clocks again. Thank You Joseph Mayenschein.
