Architecture of Tiny Distinction: September 2014
http://tinydistinction.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Architecture of Tiny Distinction. Sunday, 7 September 2014. Victorian Iron Lace and a Little Porch. I haven't made a post in a very long time! This is mainly due to how busy I have been. Finally though, I have had some time to continue work on the half scale house. This week I finished off the porch and added some iron lace to cap the tower and the bay windows. I added supports to create a gently sloping porch roof. I then finished off the porch supports and glued them in place. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Architecture of Tiny Distinction: Making a Tiny Victorian Hall Lantern
http://tinydistinction.blogspot.com/2014/05/making-tiny-victorian-hall-lantern.html
Architecture of Tiny Distinction. Wednesday, 21 May 2014. Making a Tiny Victorian Hall Lantern. I have been searching for some light fittings for my half scale dollhouse, however, in this scale I have not been able to find any affordable lights which are not clunky and look out of scale. I did find some that were nice but were about $150 - $200 each, which is too much if you want to light a whole house. I decided on a Victorian hall lantern. I love these lanterns so much! Then I popped the top and bottom...

Architecture of Tiny Distinction: Half Scale House Progress
http://tinydistinction.blogspot.com/2015/02/half-scale-house-progress.html
Architecture of Tiny Distinction. Wednesday, 25 February 2015. Half Scale House Progress. This month I have been working hard on the half scale house, trying to finish the bulk of the work before my Architecture studies resume in March. I am trying to finish the complex interiors, so that during the busy semester, all I need do is paint the exterior and furnish the house at my leisure. The finished flowery bedroom. For an embellishment I edged the frame with some gold fabric edging I found lying around&#...

Architecture of Tiny Distinction: November 2014
http://tinydistinction.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Architecture of Tiny Distinction. Saturday, 22 November 2014. Gothic Victorian Parlour and Chandelier. This week I have spent a lot of effort trying to finish off the front parlour of the half scale house. I settled on a deep red flocked wallpaper and mustard trim. These colours seemed suitably gaudy for a Victorian interior. I chose a maroon patterned ceiling paper. And some gold wire. Next, the dining room! Architecture of Tiny Distinction. Saturday, 15 November 2014. Its been a while since I posted, b...

Architecture of Tiny Distinction: Making a Kakelugn (Swedish Tiled Stove)
http://tinydistinction.blogspot.com/2013/03/making-kakelugn-swedish-tiled-stove.html
Architecture of Tiny Distinction. Sunday, 24 March 2013. Making a Kakelugn (Swedish Tiled Stove). This weekend I started working on the kakelugn, or tiled stove for the dinning room of my Swedish dollhouse. I wanted it to sit in the corner and look something like this:. I started with a piece of old floorboard I found in the shed, it was about 3cm thick. I cut it to a rectangle and also chamfered the edges to get the correct shape. I used a cornice piece upside-down to do this. Now all that is left is to...

Architecture of Tiny Distinction: Door Tutorial and a Small Bit of Progress on the Swedish House
http://tinydistinction.blogspot.com/2013/03/door-tutorial-and-small-bit-of-progress.html
Architecture of Tiny Distinction. Sunday, 17 March 2013. Door Tutorial and a Small Bit of Progress on the Swedish House. Since I have spent so much time on the American House, my little Swedish House has been quite neglected. I had the whole weekend to work on it. At the beginning of the weekend it was still just a shell, but I have done some work now to make it look much more like a little house. I cut the basewood to the correct door shapes. Then I glued the three layers together. I then worked on the ...

Architecture of Tiny Distinction: Little Mantel Mirrors
http://tinydistinction.blogspot.com/2014/11/its-been-while-since-i-posted-but-now.html
Architecture of Tiny Distinction. Saturday, 15 November 2014. Its been a while since I posted, but now that exams are done with, I have got back into it. This week I have been working on the fiddly details of my half scale house, being cornice details, brackets, scroll work and fireplaces. My goal is to create a half scale house which is not discernible in terms of quality and detail, from a 1:12 house. I began by finishing off the chimney. Next I designed an over mantel mirror for the parlour, in the Go...

Architecture of Tiny Distinction: A Little Bathroom Takes Shape
http://tinydistinction.blogspot.com/2013/01/a-little-bathroom-takes-shape.html
Architecture of Tiny Distinction. Tuesday, 29 January 2013. A Little Bathroom Takes Shape. This week I commenced work on the bathroom of the eBay house (which I think now I will start calling the "American House" - because it is looking more and more American for some reason). I have been looking at countless pictures of Victorian bathrooms, and found one I particularly liked:. For the floor I made a template out of cardboard. I had to cut the sheet down to size. This was a challenge. I am not entirely h...
