After the Revolutionary War, the Church of Englanders were fairly unpopular in America because of their association with the British Crown. Lack of priests kept our church from the Sacraments (many had fled the Colonies because they had sworn loyalty to the King at Ordination). We also lacked bishops, and thus very few of our laity could be Confirmed, and Ordination required a dangerous trip to England.

Hinduism, Buddhism, Roman Catholicism, Islam, Anglicanism - they all have something in common; the use of beads in counting prayers. Prayer beads are almost universal among the worlds religions, and hold a significant place in Christianity (Albeit the Calvinists avoid them, but they can go shoot themselves.). I have added the Anglican prayer beads to my usual devotions, and love the comfort they bring to my prayer life.
