What it is like to be a bat. Monday, April 25, 2005. New facts for an old story. From the NY Times: Since November's election, the victors have managed to be on the wrong side of public opinion on one issue after another: the economy, Social Security privatization, Terri Schiavo, Tom DeLay. What it is like to be a bat. Monday, June 21, 2004. I like George Bush. He's a funny fella. I can imagine one day after his mandate is over, he'll turn around and say: "Just kidding! In a time where actors make good politicians, here's a politician that could make a hell of an actor, or at least a comedian.

What it is like to be a bat. Monday, May 30, 2005. Is the American dream that people can rise from rags to riches with a little grit and imagination - or fall from the top rungs to lesser positions if they can't cut it - mostly a myth? There is no sure-fire way to mitigate the deep-seated, multifaceted impact of class. Stronger affirmative-action programs to bring low-income students into colleges would surely help. So, too, would stronger anti-poverty and early-education programs. Tax cuts w...Study fam...

I find that the large personal and financial costs incurred by Darwin in his mission to discover an ultimate truth would be very unlikely replicated in today's society. We live for the now. Corporate sponsors are unlikely to be impressed by a lifelong research project, and as a result we become increasingly stuck in our epistemological world, where the only thing that matters to us are those that immediately affect us.
