The repetitive simplicity of the piano keys, one bright note lingering above a dark chord. Like a kite attached to a gnarled tree. An airplane in the distance catches her eye, and she looks up toward it to see where it's going, where it's been. it's not bright, but she narrows her eyes, shields them with her hand as she watches the plane disappear into her imagination.

I often concoct rather interesting late-night/early-morning snacks after returning home from the bars: canned tuna and rice remains my most notable failure. Last weekend, upon waking at 7:30 am after a wedding to find all my usual breakfast taco haunts closed (who is open at 7:30 am on a Sunday, anyway? Roasted red bell peppers. Olive oil tortilla wrap. Friday, January 29, 2010. Are Canadian provinces playing God? I was 14 when my mother was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. An incurable cancer of the plasma cells. Her prognosis was grim. Three to five years was the typical life expectancy for a newly diagnosed patient. Her oncologist prescribed thalidomide. As a very expensive drug, she was fortunate enough to receive it for free through a clinical trial. Grow But what if she didn’t qualify for the clinical trial? Would my mother still be alive today?
