Wednesday, May 20, 2015. Pic of the Day. Guntersville Dam Recreational Area near New Hope, Alabama. Hat a beautiful bird is the Red-headed Woodpecker. Its black and white body plumage and red head makes it one of my favorite woodpeckers. The pair I have been photographing near Guntersville Dam is a breeding pair and in prime plumage right now. I feel so fortunate to have found a pair that is so approachable and photogenic. Nikon D800, Nikkor 500mm f/4, 1/400 second @ f8. May 24, 2015 at 3:44 AM. Beth's P...

Friday, May 15, 2015. Pic of the Day. Magee Marsh, Ohio. Earlier this week I was at Magee Marsh, Ohio during the "Biggest Week in American Birding" when I came across a pair of Veerys feeding on the forest floor. The birds paid little attention to me and allowed me to get great close-up photographs. As much as I enjoyed photographing the Veery, I would have much more enjoyed a serenade of its lyrical song. Follow this youtube link to hear the Veery for yourself:. Https:/ www.youtube.com/watch? Red and th...

Ivory-billed Woodpecker - IBWFound: As it Happens!: Ivory-billed Woodpecker Specimen
http://ibwfound.blogspot.com/2010/10/ivory-billed-woodpecker-specimen.html
Saturday, October 30, 2010. Male Ivory-billed Woodpecker: Anniston Museum of. Natural History; Anniston, Alabama. Living only a few hours from Anniston I made a trip in 2006 to photograph and take measurement of the ivorybill, the nest cavity and entrance. The cavity entrance measured 4(h) x 3 5/8(w) inches, which seems small for an ivorybill cavity entrance hole. If you are interested in seeing this specimen for yourself follow this link, http:/ www.annistonmuseum.org. Anniston Museum of Natural History.
