Mostly emergency and holding repairs. Fan tail gear train un-. Seized and reset. One truck wheel reset. Cap turning. Painting cradle built and all surfaces painted or tarred (using brushing tar). Window and door frames replaced. New lintels on doors. Dust floor replaced (the old one was well rotted). Other floors repaired. Outhouse roof and fanlights repaired. Duck boards round cap repaired. This is the oldest photo of the mill, taken around 1897, and shows the original black vertical boarding of the smock. The housing of the recently added external drive can just be seen on the right side of the mill. A few years later, this shows Chiver’s first tenant miller, Joshua Wilson and his son, Mark, and Mark’s wife. About 1910, seen from Chiver’s strawberry fields. Notice that the smock is now weather boarded in white. The original black boards are still there underneath the weatherboarding.

The 1950s - The Beginning of the End. Impington Hall, which shamelessly was allowed fall into disrepair and eventually after having been converted into other uses pulled down, was the home of the Pepys for over two hundred years. It was located opposite Impington Church and today part of the parkland has Impington Village College built on it. It was here that Samuel Pepys came to visit his great uncle, Talbot, for advice and as a result Impington is often refered to in the diaries of Samuel Pepys.
