Orthogonality Catastrophe: Mike on the mic
http://orthogonalitycatastrophe.blogspot.com/2006/04/mike-on-mic.html
A graduate student's misadventures in theoretical physics. Sunday, April 09, 2006. Mike on the mic. Last week, as promised, Michael Peskin. Gave the Lee Page series of lectures. He's best known for writing the de facto. Recounts, but instead he turned out to be a remarkably cheerful, bubbly guy, willing to talk at length with anyone. His lectures were among the best-delivered talks I've been to here, after correcting for my personal areas of interest. Thanks to Peter for pointing this out). Dunno I'm sti...

YoungFemaleScientist: June 2005
http://youngfemalescientist.blogspot.com/2005_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, June 12, 2005. So, we're getting ready to go on this trip, and of course, the airline we're flying on:. A) doesn't have places to plug in laptops in coach. B) won't let us upgrade to business class, because we bought discount tickets. I'm also feeling really, ahem, naive. Because I bought a power convertor thingee last year, not realizing that you can't even plug that into most Economy class seats. They certainly market it as if it's going to solve all your problems! But really, we don't fit into...

YoungFemaleScientist: July 2005
http://youngfemalescientist.blogspot.com/2005_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, July 28, 2005. Today is Big Machine Science Day: Aka, waiting for my cells to do something interesting under the microscope. It's going to be a slow day. I knew this, and I almost brought Harry Potter with me, but then felt guilty. What was I thinking? Lately, I'd rather work in a coffee shop. And the micro- the day to day, okay I just spent a week on this experiment and will it work or was it a total waste of time and effort? Ha ha ha, it's those last two things that really get you in the end.

YoungFemaleScientist: On publishing
http://youngfemalescientist.blogspot.com/2013/12/on-publishing.html
Monday, December 02, 2013. A comment on the previous post asked how much I published. Let me start by saying, a lot more people have read this blog than ever read the scientific papers I published, if that tells you anything. I can't give you exact numbers, but I did publish well enough to get fellowships. (for all the good it did me, since I never had sufficient financial support from my PIs.). I could have, should have, would have published more if it had been entirely up to me. As I've mentioned repea...

Thoughts of a quantum agnostic. The Life of a Theorist. This is a permanent link to one of my most popular posts (not surprisingly it is one that demonstrates my innate “Charlie Brown” qualities). It first appeared here on July 1, 2007. 11:00-1:00 Assist with solar observing session sponsored by my local astronomy club. Mentally unstable girl spent entire time attempting to kiss me. Apparently mentally unstable people find me attractive. 3:00-4:00 Relaxing hour spent fly fishing in which I lose four flie...

The Decline of Reason? | Quantum Moxie

Thoughts of a quantum agnostic. The Decline of Reason? Everyone should read this. The copy appearing on that page has errors clearly introduced during the copying process, but the underlying argument is brilliant and biting. Thanks to Günther Greindl. For bringing this to my attention. 11 Responses to “The Decline of Reason? February 8, 2009 at 9:00 am. So many quacks, so little time. February 8, 2009 at 9:31 am. Thoughts of a quantum agnostic. Objective reality (and the return of this blog). On May 19, 2015 by quantummoxie. So what is it that has me so inspired as to start clicking away again? Objective reality. Yes, indeed, folks I get that worked up over objective reality. It’s been a theme running through my life of late. Or, rather, it’s the denial of objective reality by other people that has gotten me riled up. George Orwell wrote a lot about objective reality. Time were relative, i.e. Notably, special (an...

Thoughts of a quantum agnostic. Pictures I took of the recent lunar eclipse (only two came out, but not bad considering I just snapped them with my digital camera). That’s Saturn down to the left. The files are pretty large just so you know. Four recent photos of the Merriland River in Wells, Maine. Water’s still a little high (and cold) for the trout to be biting, but it’s getting there. And a recent brook trout I caught in a nice morning of fishing in town…. Couple of small bass…. Sunset near Big Sky.
