Subtitled An A-Z of Chance Encounters, these photographs document a series of journeys centred on the London A-Z. Each book records a single day’s journey, subject to a different chance strategy selected by a throw of the dice. The resulting images combine to form sequences which emphasise the underlying connections to be made between the seemingly random and haphazard, celebrating the serendipity at the core of urban life. Par hazard - journey one. Par hazard - journey two. Par hazard - journey three.

In Praise of Older Men. In an age obsessed with youth and superficial beauty, In Praise of Older Men celebrates the character of the older face with its signs of a life well lived. The phone photograph casual, ephemeral, disposable and the labour intensive, hands-on craft of salt printing harking back to an earlier age an unlikely yet ultimately effective combination. 3/2){this.style.height='auto';this.style.width='100%';};this.style.opacity='1';"/.
pinhole

The blur and extreme depth of field of these pinhole images are characteristic of this form of photography and lend the pictures a haunting, dreamlike quality. These were taken using a Zero Image medium format film pinhole camera. 3/2){this.style.height='auto';this.style.width='100%';};this.style.opacity='1';"/.

In search of inspiration. Why, Sir, you find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave London. No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford." — Samuel Johnson. Wednesday, 16 March 2011. Many films have London as their location - few actually have London as the prime subject. Patrick Keiller's melancholic film London. Still from London by Patrick Keiller. Continuing my exploration of Maryon Park, S E London, location of Antonioni's seminal film Blow Up. Perhaps I had preconceived ideas of this being a place of mystery and intrigue, of trying to shape my vision to fit that of the film? The most sed...

In search of inspiration. Why, Sir, you find no man, at all intellectual, who is willing to leave London. No, Sir, when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford." — Samuel Johnson. Monday, 1 August 2011. His 'unreal city' is peopled with ghost-like forms like the souls in Dante's Inferno. Sighing and shuffling along, their eyes on the ground in front of them, they flow over London Bridge to begin their monotonous day at their desks:. To where Saint Ma...

Wolf at the door. Private View: Thursday 18 December 6-9pm. James Haggas Chrissy Mclaughlan Irina Tsynbal Mark Walter. The show includes painting, drawing, and sculpture, and is a celebration of the artists’ compulsion to continue making art despite the ever present wolf at the door. In her paintings, Christine Mclaughlan is concerned with the construction of imagined space and narrative through the manipulation of paint. Her textured and layered surfaces frequently hint at interior landscapes or nat...

A Photographic A-Z of Chance Encounters. Thursday, 6 January 2011. Final leg of the journey. Unloved and untouched for over 7 months, it is high time to put this blog to bed. A last minute rush to get my final project ready for assessment meant the final journey write-up was abandoned mid-flow! The acts of wandering without a destination, getting lost, following another and obeying orders all have the effect of a certain fragmentation of the self, a disengagement from reality and an absolving of responsi...
