Spectroscopic observations were started in 2013 using an Elliot Instruments CCDSpec spectrometer, details of the instrument are given below. Initial imaging has included many bright stars to test the capabilities and limitations of the instrument. Observational work has now begun on monitoring variable stars, nova, supernova along with variable nebula and comets. The spectrometer has a fixed resolution but is very capable along with being lightweight and compact. Optimum Input Focal Ratio f/10.

Variable star observation forms the largest proportion of my observing time, it consist of two main clases, eruptive stars and discoveries made by the amateur Mike Collins. My main instrument housed in the observatory is a LX200GPS 10 F10 telescope with EMC coatings. Taking into acount many of the telescopes shortcomings the instrument is overall of excellent quality. I have made a number improvements to the telescope including fitting stain. Less steel drive gears and machining the Declination worm gear. These changes have provided smoother tracking and GOTO pointing to within a few arc minutes.

The interior of the observatory is painted black and features a workbench with storage space. An old computer is used to run some planetarium software, store observation files and some useful utilities and is connected to a small network giving access to the internet. This computer is also used to point the telescope this allows greater versatility than the hanbox controller with essentially an unlimited number of objects. Location and sky condition:.
