日本特有の衣装 着物は、世界各国でも、そのまま kimono として通用するほど、有名な民族衣装です。 語源は 着るもの という言葉が 着物 に変じたと言われていますが、平安時代の小袖に端を発し、江戸時代に現在の着物の形が完成しました。 平安時代では、小袖は下着のようなもので、貴族はこれに袖口の下を縫わない 大袖(おおそで) と呼ばれるものを着込み、広く知られている十二単 じゅうにひとえ のような、様々な装束を楽しんでいたようです。 このころ、一般男子は狩衣 かりぎぬ や水干 すいかん と呼ばれる衣装を、公家男子は束帯 そくたい 、衣袴 ほうこ 、衣冠 いかん 、直衣 のうし 、狩衣 かりぎぬ と呼ばれるものを、公家女子は女房装束 唐衣裳装束 、小袿 こうちぎ 、壺装束 つぼしょうぞく 、衣 きぬ かつぎと呼ばれるものを場面ごとに着こなしていました。
