I want some thoughts on methods, strategies, types of lessons, etc etc. This is not a differentiation blog – but a math instruction blog. I did download a sample of Learning to Love Math: Teaching Strategies That Change Student Attitudes and Get Results. And I am hoping that it will give me something to go on…. Delving deep into the methods and ideas. Students Want To Be The Focus. December 30th, 2011 0 comments. In Learning To Love Math. How would this look fully realized? I think groups, stations, experiments, etc. aren’t answers but rather pieces. Forming them to make a unique math classroom experience is something we must all experiment with. Resisting what is easy and natural is the start. What do you think? Seeking Inspiration From Books. December 27th, 2011 2 comments. The Love and Hate of Best Practices.

Delving deep into the methods and ideas. January 4th, 2012 0 comments. The majority of my students sit in mixed ability groupings in which they do new lesson work when time and behavior allows. I normally do similar ability behavior only during specific differentiation days. As I work towards differentiating on a more regular basis I guess I shall try same ability groupings more often and see how the results compare. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Delving deep into the methods and ideas. Getting Students To Recognize What Is Challenging. January 5th, 2012 0 comments. The problem is I have discovered this is a skill I need to teach to my students. First, I think students are often over confident in what they find challenging. They are quick to assume they got something right –. Especially on multiple choice tests. We need to get students to question themselves – not to the point of self doubt, but to make a more complete learner. On Understanding E...

Delving deep into the methods and ideas. Timing and Planning For Time. January 29th, 2012 0 comments. The saddest part so far is that I simply don’t have answers. I try to cut things, move fast here and slow down there, and I still feel like I am fumbling through. Flexibility is an important characteristic of a teacher, but it is definitely had to change an internal clock that has chimed regularly for the past 4 years. Using an Activity To Teach. 25 March 2005: Who's cheating? First, It's plain to see that the current system significantly over-values test scores. The irony is that the test scores often don't reflect student ability or learning. I've heard it said that the only thing standardized tests scores consistently tell us is the economic status of the students. So when a district administrator, principal, or teacher puts great value on high test scores, what will the district, school, or classroom be like? Beyond that, I absolutely. So alt...
