In Baudrillard’s inversion of Borges’ fable, the map precedes the territory, and the real subsists here and there in tatters in the deserts on the empire’s edge. Thankfully, unknown to Baudrillard, the real was not lost in the desert. Rather, it was found by Deleuze and Guattari’s nomads, who picked it up to carry with them in their travels.
