Aspierations on the Bible: Thoughts on John 4: What it takes to believe
http://bibleaspierations.blogspot.com/2014/01/thoughts-on-john-4-what-it-takes-to.html
Aspierations on the Bible. Saturday, January 4, 2014. Thoughts on John 4: What it takes to believe. In this fourth chapter we have two stories with a different view as to what it took to believe in Jesus. In the case of the Samaritan woman, it took Jesus telling her the abbreviated version of her life story. In the case of the ruler, it took Jesus telling him that his son would live. Aspierations on the Bible: November 2013
http://bibleaspierations.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Aspierations on the Bible. Saturday, November 30, 2013. Thoughts on Revelation 15: Too late to come to our spiritual senses. In the end, everyone will know who God is and worship Him in some way. This may be hard to see now, but eventually everyone will have to acknowledge the truth and respond accordingly. Friday, November 29, 2013. Thought on Revelation 14: You have questions; God has answers. What a contrast between chapters 13 and 14. In chapter 13. We had two beasts running amuck on the earth, terro...

Aspierations on the Bible: December 2013
http://bibleaspierations.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Aspierations on the Bible. Monday, December 30, 2013. Thoughts on Mark 16: Ending the gospel. I'm not sure any scholar is absolutely sure how Mark is supposed to end in its original version. Most agree through verse 8 of chapter 16, but not everyone agrees on what, if anything that follows is authentic. Saturday, December 28, 2013. Thoughts on Mark 15: Beware of religious leaders. I'm not sure how this happened, but it isn't the only time something like this has happened in the history of the world. ...

Aspierations on the Bible: September 2013
http://bibleaspierations.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Aspierations on the Bible. Friday, September 27, 2013. Thoughts on James 5: Rich and Poor. So, what does one do in a capitalistic society as a Christian? I guess we shouldn't focus on getting rich. If God blesses us with wealth through our ethical behavior, then we should continue our ethical behavior and do good with that blessing. Wednesday, September 25, 2013. Thoughts on James 4: When to call others out. James is blunt. He does not mince words. Weep in repentance for being double-minded. What I do kn...

Aspierations on the Bible: July 2012
http://bibleaspierations.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
Aspierations on the Bible. Sunday, July 22, 2012. God is God and I am Not. I'd dig up the old essay, except that I am still in the process of unpacking, so I'm not sure where it is. I'm also not sure it was all that good, so we'll just try to wing it here in this blog post and see what comes. As a newly-wed, I've been thinking a lot about this type of thing. Before the wedding, I was reading a book by Mike Mason called The Mystery of Marriage: Meditations on the Miracle. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I am ...

Aspierations on the Bible: Thoughts on John 2: Righteous Anger
http://bibleaspierations.blogspot.com/2014/01/thoughts-on-john-2-righteous-anger.html
Aspierations on the Bible. Thursday, January 2, 2014. Thoughts on John 2: Righteous Anger. It sometimes astounds me how well-intentioned Christians describe Jesus. He is almost this timid thing that wouldn't hurt a fly. More like Francis of Assisi than the Jesus described in the gospels. Early in the book, John describes a scene that should put to rest that Jesus was mild-mannered. He goes into the temple and destroys the money-making schemes and afterwards publicly challenges the religious leaders.
