Intellectual Domesticity

Sunday, January 17, 2010. Is it vain that I think the inside of my fridge is attractive? I just L-O-V-E having a full fridge. I like knowing that there are all these possibilities just waiting to be cooked up. True confession: I don't grocery shop with a list. I buy some fruits and veggies and then we have certain staples that we make sure are always on hand: soy milk (although I really need to switch to rice or almond or coconut milk - I'm working on it! Eggs, plain yogurt. So, what's here? Bottom shelf...

Intellectual Domesticity: 10.24.09

http://intellectualdomesticity.blogspot.com/2009/10/102409.html

Saturday, October 24, 2009. People I know if real life keep bugging me to update here, but I'm just so busy living that it's hard to find the time. In short, things are fabulous: work, friends, having fun, Miss Marple, Nathan - we're all great. Inspired by that post, I thought I'd let you know what my fall music mix is. The Perfect Fall Mix (for cozy evenings, drives and commutes). Grace is Gone - Dave Matthews Band. True Affection - The Blow. Small House - Brett Mitchell. Farthest Shore - David Wilcox.

Intellectual Domesticity: July 2009

http://intellectualdomesticity.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, July 5, 2009. Has anyone else completely thrown menu planning out the window lately? I find it hard to menu plan when every time I walk down the street I'm confronted with some produce I want to eat right then and there. Is it different when you get to shop at grocery stores? This summer we're down to 1-2 Fresh Direct deliveries a month and I'm supplementing everything else with farmers' markets and fruit kiosks. Truth be told, we eat the same thing almost every day. Saturday, July 4, 2009. We st...

Intellectual Domesticity: June 2009

http://intellectualdomesticity.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, June 30, 2009. It's like I should give up isn't it? Oh well. Sorry the posts are fewer and farther between each week. I can chalk it up to a few reasons:. 1 I'm having too much fun to write much. I work hard and play harder (seriously! 2 I got an iphone and started updating my Twitter. Account, so follow me. Other there- I update several times per day. It was also exhausting. I felt the need to justify all my life choices and to explain how I got to this point. Yes, I'm married. No, ...When I wa...

Intellectual Domesticity: 9.26.09

http://intellectualdomesticity.blogspot.com/2009/09/92609.html

Saturday, September 26, 2009. Today was almost too awesome to convey, but I'll try. To begin, the weather is GORGEOUS right now. The leaves are changing a bit, the air is slightly chilly (light cardigan and jeans weather) and the sun is shining. I love fall. We started the day with breakfast at Alice's Tea Cup. We left Alice's and walked up Columbus Avenue to the post office so that I could mail my Fall Food Swap package to my partner, Becky. Who should we run into but Jack McBrayer. We spent a couple ho...

Intellectual Domesticity: 1.2.10

http://intellectualdomesticity.blogspot.com/2010/01/1210.html

Saturday, January 2, 2010. Well, it's a whole new decade, eh? 2009 was awesome and I can't wait to enjoy 2010. So far, 2010 has been the laziest year of my life. I'm sipped tea, knitted and napped for the past two days. I have not washed or folded laundry or left the house other than to buy groceries one block away. It has been glorious. I did however finish a knitting project and we've taken in way too much Half-Ton Teen/Dad/Mom shows. WAY too many. January 5, 2010 at 7:16 PM. View my complete profile.

Thursday, July 30, 2009. Kuala Lumpur, take 2. Back in KL, as they say (and so miss out on saying "Kuala Lumpur"! Then there's trust- she must really trust me. And of course, I trust her. How many times do you get to see trust in the flesh, so to speak? It makes you feel really good about people. Every city in Borneo. Most of the cities in Java. All of larger towns in India. It's really funny that the one place I went, Tamil Nadu, happens to have immigrants all over Malaysia. There were lots of color...

http://agoeseast.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

Sunday, June 28, 2009. People, Gilli, Lombok. The Gillis are a primo example of a backpacker haven- the little islands are a mix of families on vaca and travelers that get stuck there diving for weeks and weeks. Me and my two compadres only stayed for two nights but we went to the party (the island is so small that there is one party per night), which was surprisingly a good time- everyone who worked and visited on the island was mingling. Tuesday, July 21, 2009. I was doing you a favor not updating in Kota. The jumping-off point in Sabah. Aka North Borneo. You really are here for the nature, because there ain't much else. KK. Is near Mount Kinabalu. National park, which I took a litte. Driving tour through. That was the first real dud of a guide I got- all he did was drive us to places, then bought himself an ice cream. I didn't even get to walk around the park, which was a bummer! I went to the Nature Lodge on the Kinabantangan. The peop...

Tuesday, March 31, 2009. I'm trying to predict what I'll forget about when I'm on vacation for two months. Will I have cool shoes? Will I remember that it's Tuesday? Sunday, March 29, 2009. If I were a guidebook. I would want to be this one: South-East Asia: The Graphic Guide. It's like what I want all my diaries to look like. It's got schematics. It's got some pointers but not enough. Hopefully enough. Thursday, March 26, 2009. And I thought it might be educational to add up my bills in public. Now ...

alicia goes east: Penang

http://agoeseast.blogspot.com/2009/07/penang.html

Monday, July 13, 2009. I finally emerged from that hostel after a long parade of characters. My snot still looks like an alien life form but I feeeeeel GREAT! I took a few pictures in KL of the Petronas Towers (Petronas is like the Malaysian Exxon), and many many more of the monorail. If I hadn't been so ready to get somewhere (anywhere! New, I would have ridden around on it for a day. But as it was I hopped on a bus to Penang. And it sounded like a gem. What a place! Oh, and then there's religion! There...

alicia goes east: NIAH CAVES

http://agoeseast.blogspot.com/2009/07/niah-caves.html

Wednesday, July 29, 2009. Now, I know I tend to hyperbole, but if I could choose one place to go to out of all the places I've been, Niah Caves would be it. It's a national park in Sarawak near the aforementioned Miri. Miri's a hole (thank goodness for the Americans- someone to gripe with) but man, I would fly back there in a heartbeat to go see the caves again. I walked down the plankwalk to the cave- a good hour's walk! Now I'm back in KL- the last leg! July 29, 2009 at 11:49 AM. Be cool, soda pop.

Intellectual Drivel

Sunday, January 11, 2015. Writers Residency: A New Twist. Beyond the blog, beyond the burning desire to hammer out clever bits of fiction, I still have to earn a dependable paycheck. Oh would that I could thrive on the income of just writing to my hearts content, but it is still too soon to drop my trowel and send my overalls to the waste bin. Such is life. This is not me. just yet. But that's just me. To thee I wouldst say: "Sally forth and follow thy quill! Mine lead me home again. But, above all else,...
