As for a belated update, we said goodbye to the 4 British volunteers a couple of weeks ago–Harriet, Evie, Hannah, and Rosanna. Things aren’t the same at Ciudad lately–I miss having them around! Before they left, the other volunteers and I had a surprise going away party for them in the dining hall with the kids from the dorms we work in. It was very cute, and the San Antonio boys recited a poem for Harriet. Erick is definitely the most studious of the 3rd graders…. Luis Angel and Josep…not so much. These...

Hard to believe it’s already the end of October! Here’s our Cap Corps group. along with our local director, José. Jess, Bell, Sonja, Laura Carmen, Jenny, and I. Went to Lima’s annual food festival and tried some great food from all over Peru ( http:/ www.mistura.pe/. Yikes there are just too many of them roaming around. I had to keep watch over the whiteboard, because the kids were being little cheaters and kept trying to change the points. We just celebrated Jhoyner, Jess, and Jenny’s birthdays...

Monthly Archives: February 2012. Machu picchu & bolivia. I miss Christine and Katie already! It was great to have visitors. Here’s a recap of our travels…. And we went to Pisac market just outside of Cusco and found some Peruvian crafts and blankets:. Up above the market square in Pisac was a hiking path with terraces and some tower look-outs to see. We did some pre-Machu Picchu climbing and got a view of the Sacred Valley:. Day 4: Machu Picchu. We made it! After spending a few days in Corioco, we headed...

Monthly Archives: October 2012. It was so nice to see Megan, Jenn, and Jasper and to have them here in Peru! The three of them came down to visit a couple of weeks ago and we hung around in Lima for a couple days before heading out to Huaraz, this little city in the Andes. And after being in all these little mountain towns all day, Huaraz felt like a big city. We took the suggestion from the people in the hostel and went to this Braza Roja restaurant for dinner. We continued on to this other little town ...

It was so nice to see Megan, Jenn, and Jasper and to have them here in Peru! The three of them came down to visit a couple of weeks ago and we hung around in Lima for a couple days before heading out to Huaraz, this little city in the Andes. When they arrived in Lima, I got to show them around Ciudad and our town, San Juan de Miraflores. They met Doris and Flor and the kids in San Antonio and we played some volleyball with the kids. I’m so happy they got to meet them! We continued on to this other little...

I’m finally back home in New Jersey! It’s so hard to believe how quickly the 18 months have gone by. I already miss the kids, volunteers, and Lima, but it’s great to be home. So, I’ve definitely neglected this blog for the past couple of months. Now that I’ve finished up my time as a volunteer, I wanted to do a bit of a recap of what I’ve left out from December and January. The boys watching a movie in San Antonio before Christmas mass to keep their nice clothes clean. Christmas decorations in Trujillo.

Monthly Archives: November 2012. From where we were staying, there were thermal baths a 10 or 15 minute walk away. We walked over one morning after breakfast, and the baths were so nice–an improvement from the baths in Chancos I tried to go to with Megan, Jenn, and Jasper in Huaraz–really clean and warm. And the entrance fee was only 1 sol (less than a dollar! It was especially nice to jump into the baths to kind of wash off because there weren’t any showers where we were staying! We had the last couple ...
