steenblogen: are women human?
http://steenblogen.blogspot.com/2006/04/are-women-human.html
A number of people sent me this link. To last week's Guardian. Interview with Catherine MacKinnon, and so I thought it should be mentioned here, too. One of them, a former student, astutely noted that Camille Paglia and Katie Roiphe are quoted to show the "other side" of the argument, and lamented that even in an article on a new feminist text "we are informed about MacKinnon's age, looks, and clothes! Some things have not changed.". MacKinnon's new book, Are Women Human? And Other International Dialogues.

LINEAR BEANFIELD CAROUSEL: September 2009
http://linearbean.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
THE IMPORTANCE OF PLACE AND COMMUNITY. Thursday, September 24, 2009. GPS Eye In The Sky. I've been using an Iphone app called Everytrail. For the past couple of weeks to log my walks with Tempo (my Australian Shepherd). It's a cool little app that uses GPS to map my course and record data about it (time, elevation change, pace, etc.). I can also take photos along the way and it records their location on the route. I then upload all of these to the Everytrail. Here is what it looks like. Links to this post.

LINEAR BEANFIELD CAROUSEL: May 2009
http://linearbean.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
THE IMPORTANCE OF PLACE AND COMMUNITY. Thursday, May 14, 2009. Can tighther budgets equal greener parks? Park departments across the country, coping with belt-tightening, are forced to be creative and efficient with their resources. This sometimes results in more sustainable stewardship. The number one environmental challenges facing the agencies in the next two years is funding, followed by “struggling with the effects of reduced water supply.” Seventy-one percent of the agencies say the...Eighty-seven ...

steenblogen: two things
http://steenblogen.blogspot.com/2006/03/two-things.html
There's "a new online critical resource on product placement in the movies" called Brand Hype. That's just been released. I haven't really had the time to play with it in any real way yet, but its creators say that while it's still in development (they compare it to the early beta years of the Internet Movie Database. Oh my Not only do they cover AC/DC, but also KISS, "Mountain Love" and other classics (yes, Led Zeppelin are represented! Thanks for the tip, Jim! Brand Hype is brilliant. 24 March, 2006.

steenblogen: ch-ch-ch-chia!
http://steenblogen.blogspot.com/2006/03/ch-ch-ch-chia.html
Spotted on Friday afternoon on St-Laurent. I'd heard of them before, but had never actually seen one up close! It's actually covered in something that looks (and feels) more like astroturf ( see close-up, right),. But the detailing is absolutely amazing - each and every groove is covered. Not only does it draw a crowd (on-lookers were gaping from their cars as they drove by.) but I imagine it would be really easy to find in a parking lot! 28 March, 2006. I suspect the hug would give you beard-burn.

steenblogen: since I've been gone...
http://steenblogen.blogspot.com/2006/08/since-ive-been-gone.html
Since I've been gone. Daytime and nighttime have almost completely blurred;. Email, blog and voicemail have become asides;. Serialized television has dropped completely from my radar (and hurrah for the DVD! Showers have become a 3-5 minute luxury (and long baths an opulent dream);. 9 o'clock has become a perfectly reasonable adult bedtime;. An hour-long visit from a dear friend has become an absolute delight;. A notebook list of feeding times and notes-to-self has replaced my once overflowing agenda;.

steenblogen: no, women are definitely NOT chicks
http://steenblogen.blogspot.com/2006/03/no-women-are-definitely-not-chicks.html
No, women are definitely NOT chicks. So the finance section of sympatico/msn online. Reported last week that economists are seriously concerned about the potential for the bird flu pandemic to drop the global GDP. Two to six percentage points. Report of this kind that Cooper has produced to date, and the IMF. Cooper compared a severe pandemic to that of the 1918 Spanish flu. Enough to potentially "push the global economy to contract for the first time since the Second World War.". Interestingly, cases of...

http://steenblogen.blogspot.com/2006/04/finally.html
Someone else asked the question: "What is the fascination with Britney Spears' uterus? Dean Dad," subbing in for Bitch PhD. Of late, puts out the question to the blogosphere, and while I eagerly await the comments (damn it's nice to be tuned in to a feminist blog that people actually read!
