In The Gambia Now

In The Gambia Now. Sunday, August 9, 2009. Well I'm not really kaput but I am finished (in three months to be exact). So my blog posts keep coming later and later. Sorry you guys who read my blog, I just have trouble mustering up the energy to write. Everything here is about the same though. I'm fine, actually just getting ready to go to my close of service (COS) conference at the Sheraton hotel! Well thats it, short but sweet. Thanks again for everyone who's sent me letters and packages! This was unreal...

In The Gambia Now: February 2009

http://inthegambianow.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html

In The Gambia Now. Tuesday, February 10, 2009. The Adventure That was Mali. Oh, well hello there! I haven't posted in so long I'm having trouble getting going here. Right off the bat I'd like to say that I'm fine and doing well (I know I always say that, but really it's the truth). Everything in The Gambia has been groovy, nothing to big has been going on, just keeping up my work and trying to do a little good. You'll just have to wait until I get home! In The Gambia Now. Thursday, February 14, 2008. Hello everyone, its been a while. The last time I posted was Christmas, I wish I could of gotten on here sooner but we're in our three month challenge so were supposed to stay in our village as much as possible. Village life has been good though, I'm staying busy like i always tell everyone. So far I've built a total of 8 mud stoves and have another on the way. OK i gotta go get some food but this is a work in progress, so stay tuned.

In The Gambia Now: September 2008

http://inthegambianow.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html

In The Gambia Now. Sunday, September 28, 2008. Well it's that time of the year again, yes, I'm talking about Ramadan. I hope no one is dropping dead from fasting. You can all be assured that I'm doing just fine, I sneak bread and Nutella during the middle of the day. My family doesn't cook during the day so I'm left to fend for myself. Some of you regulars might have noticed that my posting has become less frequent as time passes by. So your probably asking yourself "why is this happening"?

In The Gambia Now: November 2008

http://inthegambianow.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

In The Gambia Now. Wednesday, November 19, 2008. The Boy and The Cow Cart. It was right after breakfast when I started getting ready to ride to Ndungu Kebbe (the village next to mine where I teach sometimes). I had just taken my bicycle out and closed my door when my 13 year old host brother Moussa entered our compound driving the cow cart. Mind you this is a relatively big cart with two big cows tied into the yolk pulling it. Wednesday, November 5, 2008. Greetings all, yes it’s me again. I&#82...In addi...

Thursday, November 6, 2008. Guinea Took Me Away or Checkpoints and Bumps On the Head. Every shot because of the limited amount of film I had and the cost of developing. Luckily for me, some of my friends took their digital cameras. All these photos are by Alex, Ted, and Tara. Travel in West Africa is a trip in so many different ways. My friends and I met in Kombo, crossed the River Barra on the Kanalai ferry, and traveled to Basse Santa Su which is the biggest town up-country. Rs with bean sandwiches and...

A Growing Sense: December 2008

http://agrowingsense.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html

Thursday, December 18, 2008. Mom and Dad's Christmas Safari. My mom and dad wondered if I was just making-up these weird stories so they came to The Gambia to have a see for themselves. A day after they flew into Senegal, we got the Car from Dakar. We arrived at the crazy-busy-for-pre-Tobaski-travel carpark early in the morning and began the eight hour trek to The Gambia. The road was long, bumpy, and dusty. The car was cramped and uncomfortable. Mom and Dad were amazed by the travel conditions. My paren...

Kristina goes to The Gambia: December 2007

http://klavcevic.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html

Kristina goes to The Gambia. Wednesday, December 26, 2007. Since y'all have had Christmas. Already I have started to think about what would be nice to have over here. If you feel the urge you can send me a care package. I have added a section under my photo of things that would be nice to receive. Please feel free to venture off the list as well. My mom has been using the USPS international flat rate boxes (I think they are the best deal she has found). Please send me letters too! Two years starts now.

Kristina goes to The Gambia: Pirogues, Mice & Pigeon Pea

http://klavcevic.blogspot.com/2008/06/pirogues-mice-pigeon-pea.html

Kristina goes to The Gambia. Monday, June 16, 2008. Pirogues, Mice and Pigeon Pea. I will do my best to bring you up to speed on my life for the past few months. As some of you may know, my personal life back in the states has taken a dive, so I was concentrating on other things for a while. But now I'm back and ready to tell you some stories. The most dramatic item is I (possibly) got pick-pocketed! A pirogue loaded down with vegetable oil in front of the ferry (on a day the ferry was running). Nell bra...

We havent been able to find a good indian restaurant in south florida, so nick suggested we take an indian cooking class. we met ayesha d’mello. At a fairchild garden event, and her food was wonderful! The cooking class was a great, great time, and we are excited to replicate the recipes at home. we are now vegan (for health reasons) and will make tofu curry instead of chicken curry :). Chairs were set up in her kitchen; she can fit about 10 people. We ate outside by the pool. Posted in coral gables.
