Mar 23, 2018. Winter Strikes Again (and again and again). It's late March, technically spring. but the ground is white from yet another. Big snow storm. This winter has been hard on us. Less than two weeks ago we were hit with a nasty nor'easter that dumped 25" of wet heavy snow in 6 hours. We lost power for 5 days. This year is different than last year's struggles. Last year I would say we had the winter blues. Work Life. Everything. Last winter was hard, it was dark and I was pretty miserable. Our fall...

In the Little Yellow House: Fresh {Rainbow} Salsa

http://inthelittleyellowhouse.blogspot.com/2014/08/fresh-rainbow-salsa.html

Aug 5, 2014. I went out to the garden last night, after not checking it for two days, and a ton of tomatoes had ripened at once. If it had been the weekend I might have attempted something fancier, like sauce, but it was a Monday night so I went for fresh salsa in a rainbow of colors. Pink purple red orange yellow tomatoes green jalapenos, cilantro and lime white onion and garlic. 4 cups chopped heirloom tomatoes in multiple colors. 1 yellow onion, chopped. 189; cup cilantro, minced. 1 lime, juiced.

In the Little Yellow House: July Garden

http://inthelittleyellowhouse.blogspot.com/2014/07/july-garden.html

Jul 15, 2014. The garden always looks best in July, before the powdery mildew and blight sets in and makes the plants look ill and stringy. Right now everything is green and lush and growing rapidly. The strawberries this year were fantastic. We had enough dry days (low humidity and less rain) that almost all of the berries ripened beautifully. We had a ton of strawberries this year and it was wonderful! Next up will be the blackberries, any day now they are set to ripen. My Favorite Paint Colors.

In the Little Yellow House: July Garden Update

http://inthelittleyellowhouse.blogspot.com/2015/07/july-garden-update.html

Jul 24, 2015. After yesterday's update, last night I finally managed to finish weeding the garden and garden pathways so that it looks like a garden again. ( The little plant in the pathway above is a runaway zinnia about to bloom. I didn't have the heart to pull it! But this year it's raggedy. Which was probably my worst tomato/garden year). Usually the cherry and yellow pear tomato plants are bursting with bunches of little tomatoes and this year there are only a few bunches. Herbs, Carrots and Beans.

In the Little Yellow House: August Garden

http://inthelittleyellowhouse.blogspot.com/2013/08/august-garden.html

Aug 13, 2013. This has been a really rough year for gardening. One thing after another, spring through summer. This has been my worst year yet, including raised bed gardening and container gardening (between the two I've been doing this for almost a decade now! When looking at the pictures, please ignore how badly the pathways need to be weeded. The only things in the garden that seem to be doing well are the basil plants and the weeds. Beans, Chard, Herbs, etc. This bed is a mixed bag. The swiss cha...

In the Little Yellow House: Key Lime Pie Ice Cream

http://inthelittleyellowhouse.blogspot.com/2014/08/key-lime-pie-ice-cream.html

Aug 14, 2014. Key Lime Pie Ice Cream. Make homemade ice cream? I love the ice cream recipe, I've made it before but never for Oliver. He LOVED it. It's tangy, sweet and delicious. I think it tastes very summery! The ice cream recipes is adapted from Cooking Light. So it's not even that bad for you. I skipped the graham crackers, but only because we didn't have any in the house. You can throw this recipe together in about 3 minutes and the ice cream maker does the rest. Key Lime Pie Ice Cream.

Renovating/restoring my vernacular gothic revival cottage in a neighborhood of mostly late-19th-century homes on a narrow, steep little street. Monday, May 18, 2015. I was cleaning out the front side garden one day when I discovered a bird's nest in the middle of the obelisk, which is covered with Sweet Autumn clematis. The next day I saw three eggs. A few days later there was Mama Cardinal on top of them. Look for the orange beak below. See her red tail feathers in the middle? Sunday, May 17, 2015.

Renovating/restoring my vernacular gothic revival cottage in a neighborhood of mostly late-19th-century homes on a narrow, steep little street. Sunday, September 28, 2014. We've been here three times this year. One time they were photographing a container for their spring catalogue. Can't wait to see it. The photography session seemed quite informal, just someone with a tripod and camera in the field up from the store. The Lloyd Border is my favorite garden there. It's breathtaking in any season. Renovating/restoring my vernacular gothic revival cottage in a neighborhood of mostly late-19th-century homes on a narrow, steep little street. Monday, December 29, 2014. OK, so now I should list next year's goals. Go back to clean eating for my weight, not my health this time. Finish guest room. I've started at least. I also used drywall tape for the first time in my mom's living room, so I've gotten some practice in for the nasty closet re-do. Finish all exterior painting and touch-ups. I realized Ive ...

In The Little Smoke. And there was me thinking price fixing was illegal. Following the big bru-ha-ha immediately after the withdrawal of universal healthcare for the over 70s, The government were told that any deal they made with doctors in relation to a reduction of charges for over 70s would constitute price fixing. Doctors associations could not negotiate on behalf of doctors, who in essance were self employed. So, why are doctors not allowed to collectively determine their prices, but publicans are?

In the Living Kitchen. Musings, memories, meals in the making. November 19, 2013. It’s the little things…. This post is really about tempeh. I promise. Our household is in that place where when we feel like spending a little extra beyond our monthly bills, we do a 3-4 month budget projection. Inevitably, it turns out there isn’t any extra, and that is clear when the mortgage is due 3 months into the future. It’s fine. But how I covet. This post really is about tempeh!
